I put some raw apple in with them and I cannot see that they have eaten any.....I tried a piece of cheese, too. I think as they settle in and grow they will be more comfortable and their appetite will increase, too. At least I hope. I've had chickens since September, but I have not kept any chicks in the house .....I've had two broodys that hatched a few eggs each. The hens are amazing at teaching the chicks.what are you trying to feed them? it only takes one chick to eat something different and then all of them start
I think you should only give the babies chick starter or chick mash at this young age... Here is a good article.I got a red light for them and I put in a piece of sod with wild grass and moss from our "yard"...lol. I am giving them a few scraps and will start ff in a day or two for them. Does this sound ok for them and do you all agree that they are probably EE's? I
More snow called for here in VA tonight and tomorrow.....I feel bad for the chickens.
This is true, but with a broody hen they are outside and eating grit "dirt" and rocks, so make sure the have some grit.My chicks start on broccoli around 7 - 10 days. I cut it up really small and they love to pack it around like they've found some kind of prize. Now my chick are 2 weeks and are eating cucumber, banana, broccoli, a little bit of grated cheese, cantaloupe and some whole corn. They don't get a lot, just a snack. Everything is cut up really small so they can eat it easily. In another week I'll bring them in grass or some hay from the barn. None of mine eat apples. I think they are kind of hard. When the broody hens have the chicks, they are eating all kinds of stuff when they are 5 or 7 days old. As long as the food is healthy a little bit of it won't hurt them.
