Easter Egger club!

what are you trying to feed them? it only takes one chick to eat something different and then all of them start
I put some raw apple in with them and I cannot see that they have eaten any.....I tried a piece of cheese, too. I think as they settle in and grow they will be more comfortable and their appetite will increase, too. At least I hope. I've had chickens since September, but I have not kept any chicks in the house .....I've had two broodys that hatched a few eggs each. The hens are amazing at teaching the chicks.

I got a red light for them and I put in a piece of sod with wild grass and moss from our "yard"...lol. I am giving them a few scraps and will start ff in a day or two for them. Does this sound ok for them and do you all agree that they are probably EE's? I

More snow called for here in VA tonight and tomorrow.....I feel bad for the chickens.
I think you should only give the babies chick starter or chick mash at this young age... Here is a good article.

When you do start to give scraps and grass and roughage you need to provide chick grit, maybe parakeet or parrot grit is smaller?

My chicks start on broccoli around 7 - 10 days. I cut it up really small and they love to pack it around like they've found some kind of prize. Now my chick are 2 weeks and are eating cucumber, banana, broccoli, a little bit of grated cheese, cantaloupe and some whole corn. They don't get a lot, just a snack. Everything is cut up really small so they can eat it easily. In another week I'll bring them in grass or some hay from the barn. None of mine eat apples. I think they are kind of hard. When the broody hens have the chicks, they are eating all kinds of stuff when they are 5 or 7 days old. As long as the food is healthy a little bit of it won't hurt them.

This is true, but with a broody hen they are outside and eating grit "dirt" and rocks, so make sure the have some grit.

Thanks you all! I think they are getting grit in the sandy soil attached to the grass and moss. And I mashed just a tiny bit of fried egg for them this morning...maybe a tablespoon.

Sleety snow is falling now so there wont be any outside trekking for them until that has all cleared and it is warmer. Sigh....wonder how much we will get....I love snow but I hate having the chickens stuck in it.

My October chicks have started laying :-> so far we have a dark olive layer, cream layer- big eggs! (daily- from my biggest with a big comb) & a teal layer! A few to go so crossing fingers for a darker pink and a blue! But the ameraucanas lay blue so no pressure there & we don't need brown lol, oh the suspense!! I'd take a white ;)

First Easter Egger eggs today. So proud of the ladies. They are green. I had 3 eggs, 2 EE's. I also have an Olive Egger but she should still be too young, So perhaps one was laid late yesterday and then 2 this morning? Anyway, I think it made up for the work I had to do to break into the chicken runs due to all of the ice this morning. Close to an inch of ice and sleet out there this morning.
