Easter Egger club!

I'm loving all the pics! Got my newest additions just yesterday. Any guesses what my new EE will look like?

With Easter Eggers it usually some pretty wild guesses, but heres my shot at it! The yellow peep will probaby end up white with some minor markings in the hackle (and saddle if its a roo). The two matching brown chipmunks are going to look partridge-ish but with a darker head and the blonge chipmunk will look more like a normal partidge bird. The greyish ones might come out black or blue with red/partidge leakage and the little solid brown one is an absolute mystery.

My October chicks have started laying :-> so far we have a dark olive layer, cream layer- big eggs! (daily- from my biggest with a big comb) & a teal layer! A few to go so crossing fingers for a darker pink and a blue! But the ameraucanas lay blue so no pressure there & we don't need brown lol, oh the suspense!! I'd take a white

Oh my gosh! My pullets hatched in mid-October! I hope that means they'll be laying soon, too!

Your baby chick looks like my Olivia did when she was a baby (she's the chick on the left):

A few weeks later:

A few weeks after that (she's the one in the front):

And now, she's a pretty lady:

I think part of the fun of having EE's is that you never really know how they're going to turn out. My lightest/blondest chick is now my darkest hen: beautiful black shiny feathering around her face and down her back. My darkest chick developed into a soft brown hen. It's fun!

Your babies are ADORABLE!!!

Thanks :-D they're around 5 months and I was suprised, I showed them some dummy eggs and the next day there were eggs, very amusing. I hope yours start soon too!! :) one from this group of ours isn't even fully grown yet, no color in her face/comb, still small - but she was our runty bird and she's doing great! So I'm thinking she will catch up soon :) I hear between 20-40 weeks for ee?

Nice! I've heard 20-40 weeks as well. I have one pullet that is red in the face and has been squatting, so I'm starting to think she'll be my first to lay. I also have a more runty pullet, very sweet personality, who will catch up eventually. =P I might have to go pick up some dummy eggs now.... ^_^

The ones I posted pix of a few days ago were Hatched In November, Right before Thanksgiving. So within the next month ish? I can be expecting eggs? Mom still has them On chick feed. When exactly should we switch them over? I know it's a gradual switch but not sure When. Kinda exited to see what the two pullets lay. :) They aren't that big yet, well almost the size of our EE's, but the boys still gotta grow a litttle bit before they are the size of daddy. they aren't peeping anymore either. They cluck and the boys honk when you pick them up. Its kinda funny.

I believe 16 weeks you can switch them to pullet feed or a pullet/ laying hen feed, by 20 weeks I like to have my hens on laying feed and make sure they're getting calcium too and that they have access to nest boxes but I wouldn't expect eggs really, I would be ready and keep an eye on their behavour and the coloration of their face and comb. Think of them as teenagers, when they start laying their eggs may be fairly small or not, I've got one bird laying a pretty big first egg can't wait to see what we get from this bird as time goes by. All birds are different, Espescially true with EEs. By 40 weeks if you don't have any eggs I would be very suprised ;) could be a 2-4 months for early/ average laying age for your birds?

I would look for squatting, sudden growth in comb, bright red color in comb... and then I'd start mixing in layer feed if they were at least 20 weeks old. That's just me. I've been told not to switch them over completely until you see the first egg. But I think mixing a little in at a time might help with the transition. That's just my own game plan.

Agreed. The brown one may look like my rooster Party boy. Believe it or not, he was all brown as a chick:
