Easter Egger club!

Are EEs small birds?  Until last week I have only had Tetra Tints (Road Island Red & White Leg Horn hybrid). I just got 3 EE chicks last week, they will be two weeks old tomorrow. They seem so small compared to my Tetra Tints when they were babies.   My Tetras grew so fast I swear I could see them growing but my little EEs seem like they have hardly grown at all.  They are happy and healthy, running around keeping up with their mama (my broody hen took them in the minute she saw them!) but they just seem so little.

It depends on what the parent breeds were. Since EEs are not purebreds, they are created by crossing different breeds to get colorful egg layers, they come out different sizes, shapes and colors...just like treats out of Easter eggs! :)

I have 12 chickens in my flock. 6 Barred Rocks, 3 Australorps, and 3 Easter Eggers. My Easter Egger girls are both the largest and the smallest. Snowy is huge, she's almost as big as my Easter Egger cockerel. Cocoa is tiny. At 20 weeks old, she's barely 4 pounds. They have completely different builds.

I could see my Golden Comets growing too. They're production hybrids that mature very fast, one of them has laid an egg every day since she turned 14 weeks old last week. My EEs aren't growing as fast.

Thank you all for your responses! It never occurred to me that Tetra Tints are production birds designed to grow and mature quickly. They are great layers but are all going broody on me so their production is down. About when do EEs start laying?

I don't know, mine are from Cackle. The average age is about 20 weeks.

Again, it depends on the parent birds. I had some from Ideal that just started laying. They hatched 2/10 and laid their first egg 6/15. So, at 18 weeks.
