Easter Egger club!

I HATE TO CALL EEs MONGRELS UNLESS THEY ARE CROSS-BRED MULTIPLE TIMES TO OTHER BREEDS W/O MUFFS OR PEA-COMBS BUT THEN THAT'S JUST ME. IF EEs ARE BRED TO OTHER EEs THEY SHOULD CONTINUE LAYING THE SIMILAR COLORS OF EGGS OF THEIR PARENTS.
My "easter egger" chickens are truly mutts insofar as they haven't deliberately been bred to be anything, they are just cross-bred at a farm with a mixed flock which includes araucanas (OR araucana crosses, I have no idea). My australorp cross has the little face whiskers, but my light sussex cross doesn't, her face is very sleek (EDIT, no it isn't, just had a look at her photo, and she does have a little bit of whiskers). She looks like a light sussex except she's got that "dragon face" of the araucana (that raptor-like beak), she doesn't have a sticking-up bottom, and neither of them has a floppy comb or a big comb.

It's fascinating learning a little bit (not much, as you can see from my posts) about chook genetics and the transfer of traits down the line. Thanks for the info, those who understand these things.

I have figured out that my little Splash Ameraucana Snowflake is a Roo! So instead of being upset chicken math kicked in and as soon as I have a broody hen she will have eggs. My hubby will not let me buy a bator. :( I am going to do about 3 eggs from each of my 5 pullets if they are all laying by then. Currently I have 1 Easter Egger laying and 1 Silver-laced Wynadotte laying. Now I just need my Buff Orprington, Golden Comet, and Blue Ameraucana to start laying. I also need someone to go broody. I want to start my experiment and make more chickens. Yes they will be mutts. all but the Ameraucanas. I just might need to build another 8x8 coop.
Chickens are so much fun and addicting.

Be aware that you will need an outlet for unwanted hatched roos whether it's for your freezer, or someone who takes in unwanted cockerels. And have a home lined up for your flock should an emergency happen - stuff happens and it would be easier to re-home pure breeds but that's just a head's up to consider.

I believe U.K. and Aussie "Araucanas" are equivalent to our U.S. Ameraucanas with the only difference being that the U.K. Araucana has a crest. Here in the USA what we call "Araucanas" are an ear-tufted (not muffed), non-bearded, tail-less breed totally different from U.K. Araucanas or US Ameraucanas. They are related from the original blue-egg South American Quechua/Quetro/Colloncas but our U.K. and U.S. birds are not the same breeds -- each country developed their own breeds from the original landrace blue eggers.
