Easter Egger club!

I took some pics today of my flock which consists of two Easter Eggers, a Light Brahma, a Cuckoo Marans, a Buff Orphington and a Black Australorp. The younger of the two EE's (Salem, I got her on Halloween) just got her adult voice recently and is at the very bottom of the pecking order and has yet to lay. Archaeopteryx (Teryx) was laying lovely size large blue eggs but has taken about a month off now, hopefully she'll be starting up again soon.

teryx looks just like my EE in coloring and that little swirl of the neck feathers. Mine hasn't laid in over a month. She's the only one that quit on me this winter. She'll be two in May, so I hope it's not a sign she's done.

My ee were laying regular but have slowed to only 1/4 now.
Egg eaters need to be caged with mustard filled eggshell.
I have only light green eggs from mine..
Chicken scratch poultry has a line that lay blue eggs.

Here is another remedy for egg eaters if the mustard does not work. Some may view this as too harsh but it works and is better than making soup out of them. Take a pair of dog toenail trimmers and shorten the beak to the point where it bleeds a little. Have some blood stop powder on hand. TSC carries it. This is in case you go a little deep. The idea is to make it sore like when you pull a hangnail. When they pick at eggs it hurts and by the time it heals they have quit eating eggs. A dummy egg to tempt them is a good idea at this time. If this fails chicken soup is a sure cure.

MEMama, mine was just a pullet this year so it might have more to do with the bloodline, especially if they happen to be related! I bought her from someone who got her from a hatchery, so I don't know which one she's from. I went out to feed them this morning and she crouched for me! So she might be gearing up to lay again. (she stopped crouching for me when she stopped laying. BlWhen she was laying she'd hit the dirt if I just walked by her!)

I read EE's get about 5# - is this correct? I don't want huge birds with my bantams. My coop isn't huge. I'm sure they poop a lot more, lol!

Thanks! I was thrilled when I got her and saw she had a dark beard, I love it when they have multi-colored patches like that.

For the most part they're a light breed, the problemis that some people will cross an EE with a heavy breed like a Brahma and stil call it an EE because it could still lay bluish eggs. My EE's are definitely smaller and less massive than my other girls. So it depends on where/who you get them from.

what do you guys think? I tend to like the darker ones, unless I'd find a super light wheaton color. The one in front looks bluish which is pretty. They look HUGE to me, lol! I think they are 12+ weeks.

Hah if you're used to bantams I'd imagine they do look huge! Compared to "regular" hens though they're lightweights, mostly legs and energy. Your new girls look great! I've found my EE's to be the most clever of the bunch, and I'd put more stock in the color of their eggs than their feather coloring. Teryx looks a lot like your top two, and her egg shocked everyone I showed it to with how blue it was.

Sylvia has been hanging around the porch. Today she started a clucking ruckus--do you think she laid an egg? I don't know but I'm fixing to go check.

my d'uccle girl just started laying about 3 weeks ago, a couple times I could hear her in the house so I'd run out to see! I love their cute little eggs. I gave them away b/c we rarely eat eggs, yet I want chickens! I just love chickens, they are cute and make me happy. The EE eggs will be sweet, I will probably see if I can sell those.
