Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I agree...I don't understand why they have so many problems mis-labeling EE's as Araucana's. I would have bought them as EE's. LOL I love their markings, and can not wait to see what they grow in to!

Hello everyone, it has been awhile since I last posted to this thread. I have two EE roos that were posted here late 2012. We finally found EE hens and here they are...

Early this fall I took in a few rescues, including a 4-6 yr old black EE(they were guessing). I assumed she was well past laying but she and my roo LOVE each other.They are constant companions and she is sorta the "lead' hen.So she gets to stay. I moved her into a solitary cage for flea and tick treatment and surprise, she is layed 2 63gr eggs in 3 days.Does anyone here now old an EE can continue to lay regularly?

My Easter Eggers!





Happy Feet is a week old. I got her from Meyers Hatchery.


Fluffy is a month old. I got her from the local feed store.

I had Easter Eggers about 5 years ago before we moved, and I remember them being quite flighty. We had an open topped run, and they were always flying over the 7 ft enclosure. When the little girls move out of the brooders, they will be going into an enclosure with netting to protect them from hawks and raccoons, which have been seen in my area. As you can see, Fluffy likes to fly as well. When I open the brooder, she is the first out.

Oh wow, she is a brahma????? Very, very pretty. Might have to find one to go with my Light brahma... Thanks.

she is not a high egg producer, but they are nice fat brown eggs and at least 4 times a week.. I have a Lavender Brahma as well.
Violet, her eggs are more on the lighter side, Violet, she is in charge of ALL things...

Just an update: Rizo is doing great!

She spent 4 days in the dog crate in the house. When I brought her in and bathed her (it was surprisingly easy to bathe a chicken!) I pulled what resembled a cats hairball out of her vent. I was made up of mostly straw

After that she started doing better. I put her on a diet of yogurt, and grit, while still offering her some feed. I waited til her poop looked "normal" before putting her back out with the girls.

After talking to several experienced chicken owners, I learned that this was all possibly my fault

I've been so busy lately. I haven't had time to run up to the market that gives me free produce... So the girls have been eating the straw in the run. Apparently Rizo just ate a little to much and couldn't process it. My bad... I will be doing better with that. I don't want to go through this again.
She hasn't laid in almost 2wks. This morning I was happy to find her on the nest

I have a sprout tray and grow alfalfa and wheat sprouts/fodder for the girls. They actually will eat it before scrambled eggs.
