Easter Egger club!

Well I'm a little new to the concept of EE...
But it seems that because she's only half Ameraucana her eggs might not be EE, right?
Unless it's for certain that the egg colors of the parents would mix and some sort of greenish blue color would emerge...
But she has those little puffy cheeks so we know mom was Ameraucana. I can't be certain but I think the man who sold them would know Ameraucana from normal EE because he also raised show quality serama's so he seemed to know his stuff.

With those cheeks?!?!?!
& a Pea comb to boot!
Thats an EE!!!!!

If mom was an Ameraucana, a decent one will be carrying 2 copies of the blue egg gene. Which means she had to give it to your little one.
The Buff orp will be carrying brown egg genes.
As Orp eggs vary greatly in the shade of brown, the only question is what shade of green your baby will lay!

Since your new to the term EE...lemme give you my version which I have come up with through extensive research :)

EE's, or Easter Eggers, have no breed definition and are not recognized by the APA. Anyone who calls them an unrecognized breed however I would call wrong! The best poultrymen in the business will look at an off colored Ameraucana and tell you "That's not an Ameraucana, that's an EE". Seems to me they are recognizable?
EE's have been around longer than either Araucanas or Ameraucanas - & were talking for decades before either was "recognized" as a breed.
Some people have personal standards for them, personally I Like them with beards and combs, and the blue egg gene - but they are not called blue/green egg layers, are they now?

Is a Buff Orp/Wyandotte cross and EE? NO - that'd be a "sport" or a mix! But it seems some just want a breed name for their mixed up chickens, so they call them EE's.
& that's OK with me, some of my prettiest hens and best layers are mixed up chickens - I have a Black Copper Marans/Aeraucana/Silkie Roo that is my best cock bird!
None of his offspring lay blue/green eggs, so I'd say he has lost the gene?

The best thing about EE's - no-one can tell you they aren't EE's !!

BTW - I had 3 new EE's this week :)
Black one a white chipmunk and a golden chipmunk from a green egg!

Welcome to the EE Club!!!!

Well I finally got my EE hens a EE Roo , they are 21 weeks old the Roo is 34 weeks, my hens are not laying yet
he.gif
and they run from the Roo screaming Rape!!!! I'm getting frustrated, I hope I don't end up with chickens that don't lay out of 44 hens and 6 Roo's I get 7 eggs a day 3 are my BR pullets, ( I can tell cause they were sm at first and have a pinkish tint too them ) Am I jumping the gun here or do I have a bad egg laying batch???

Are their combs getting pink?
No such thing as a bad egg laying batch! CHICKENS LAY EGGS!!
With 44 hens, your about to find ways to cook eggs you've never dreamed of!
Some take longer, are the rest heritage breeds? Some of those can take a bit longer. Hatchery hens are the producers!

My 14 week old EE cockerel attempted to mount a 17 week old Sussex pullet for the first time yesterday. She turned around and beat the crud out of him. He's already so timid as it is. Hopefully as he gets older he'll get some confidence. He's definitely going through a growth spurt; I think his legs have grown an inch in the last week. LOL

Their combs are real pink some are red. and most my birds are hatchery girls I have 3 older heritage BR's that are laying and 1 older EE that is laying and 3 young BR's just started last mth. but that is it. I have SLW's, Welsummers, BR's, EE's, Lt.B's, Red Sexlink's, GC's, ISA Browns, BJG's in my egg laying group. Silkie's and a Golden Seabright pair but they are still babies and not included in the laying group.
I sell my eggs, I had a illness wipe out my old flock, so after I got rid of the virus I thought it would be nice to start with chicks..... didn't know it would take so long. But my customers are being real good about it. I'm the one in a hurry I guess

a few pic's to show the color ranges on combs and wattles. ??? Guess I just need to sit on my hands and wait.

So right after my EE layed her 2nd water ballon , I mean squishy egg, she layed this weird yellow thing. Im guessing yolk with no shell?
No sooner I went to get something to pick it up and inspect it she stole it and ran in the pen with the flock and they all ate it!

if she keeps laying eggs like this even though they have oyster shells I would think about culling her. sometimes this is just bad genetics.
