gander007 congrats on the hatch! wish I could let a hen hatch out but snow will come soon here. I enjoy your daily egg posts with your weather conditions. I have been near your part of the country and understand the lack of humidity but still 114 degrees, phew doggy that's hot!

My girl is about 6 months old or older and she has yet to lay her first egg. Unless she's hiding them somewhere but I've looked and no eggs. What could be going wrong?

Mine were just about 6 mos (I brought them home March 6th from the feed store) when they started a little over a week ago, be patient. Sometimes their food has something to do with it as well as the fact that they are mixes so what they are mixed with could be a later layer...my Brahma for instance still has not laid.

What you feed them has a lot to do with the egg producing process so having out some crushed oyster shells or crushed egg shells and lay pellets or mash will greatly help in this process or a scrambled egg once to twice a week till your chickens start laying some eggs but I have had some very rare but up to nine months but they were mixed breed ..... Something else is dogs and cats can make them nervous .....

If that sounds hot this the coolest summer in more then five years and back in 2012 I was working on the truck and it was 125 F in the shade and I soon found myself on the ground I guess even with many years in the desert the heat can get to a person but with the blood being thinned by the years in the heat I just about freeze in 40 F temps .........

DV gets hot, been out there before in the summer... heat can sneak up on you, I work in the heat & often the engines on the vehicles I operate generate extra heat that is radiated into the drivers area and you can get sick fast if you are not watching for it. Don't over do it. :)

I switched my girls over to Scratch & Pellets, they are not laying yet but they get lots of extra stuff from the garden & kitchen, & they should start laying soon I think. My Not-Sumatras (it's a joke as the original goal had been to find 2 Sumatras) EEs.

Looky Looky Looky !!!!!!!! Sorry I'm excited.

had these girls in Isolation for 3 weeks, would have liked to had them in for good 30 days cause they came from a very dirty place but I had to get them out so I could put 2 cx chicks in. And they need it BAD!!

See what I mean??
Hoping these 2 are both pullets I have a rooster that is a pet ( got from RK by accident ) and he is trying to top my laying hens, WAY too BIG, so I got him some ladies of his own, I HOPE.....
