I can't remember if I mentioned it @NorthTexasWink but Chicadee Hatchery has beautiful EEs. Out of the 7 I got from them 3 were pretty black and white and 4 were shades of blue and grey. If your ever looking for more I can't recommend them enough. Speaking of mine can you guys confirm this is a boy. When she was younger everyone thought girl but well you know how that goes. No crowing or mating yet even though the other boy does like crazy!

Thanks I have been in denial because we sold the other female black and white EE. I have a beautiful blue boy and I really don't need two EE roos for my breeding plans. I have some blue laced red Wyandottes I want to cross them with and see what I get.

I would keep the calmer one. They tend to have more polite offspring.

Well, yesterday I caught Boo being a male and doing what a rooster is supposed to do while my older RIR rooster, Mr. Rooster, just looked at Boo as to say, " I have to share the hens with you too now. This isn't fair."

I have eggers, but no egger roo, kinda wish I'd gotten one b/c they're so pretty, plus the idea of having egger babies is nice. If we keep our cockerel (leghorn) and he were to have chicks w/ one of the eggers, what would the offspring lay, provided they're female? Is it a surprise, or will they also lay colored eggs?
We ended up w/ 3 guys and and the bantam and leghorn were apparent cockerels early on, but my buff orp was almost 18 weeks before he started acting like a roo. The older 2 were not happy about the new competition and drama ensued. I ended up giving him away to some guy who wanted him for breeding. Now the leghorn and bantam seem to have a mafia like arrangement. The little guy starts squawking and the big guy comes to deal w/ the problem. It's an interesting dynamic, but I think their arrangement only works b/c the one is a bantam and it's clear he can't take on the guy 5x his size.

The outcome of the crossing depends on whether your EE is pure for the blue shell gene. You see, blue is dominant so even if she only has one copy, she lays blue shells. If she has two copies, she'll pass one to every chick and all the pullets will lay blue shells. With one copy, she only passes it to half of the offspring.

Thanks for the info. I tried looking it up but couldn't find anything specific about interbreeding that I could understand. Good to know for future reference.. my girls are only 5 months old so we have a ways to go before anyone starts getting ideas about being broody, but it's good to know for any aspirations of breeding & possibly selling chicks.
