Easter Egger Color Identification / Question

Hi,

I bought three EE (sold as Ameraucana via craigslist) pullets when they were like 7 weeks old. I picked a dark one a light one and an inbetween one, but as they have feathered out, I'm wondering how this happened that their feathers are so diverse and what breeds may have contributed to the patterns. None of them have muffs/beards. One has a strong blue/wheaten color. One has what I am assuming is a red/brown pattern with an extra dose of black. And the orange one, I have no idea whats going on there, we called her Tiger because of how she looks, but what IS that pattern? Are they just mutts? Not that we care, they seem to be great birds; just curious and thought you all might like the pics.

They are all mutts exhibiting the wonderful diversity of mixed breed chickens.

I'm glad you are happy with your purchase as those are no where near Ameraucanas, nor any first generation hybrid with an Ameraucana, other than they are all pea combed.

They look to be barnyard mixes. One appears to even have some game bird influence.

They should be beautiful, hardy, and decent layers.

Enjoy and keep us posted on their egg color development. (Don't be surprised if you get some plain Jane brown eggs in the bunch....hybrid mix breeds usually mean poor management of the blue shell gene so it will be a crap shoot as to the egg colors....but like a box of chocolates, right?)

i think i'm just gonna keep mutt chickens from now on, lol, will keep yall posted when eggs show up in spring, king of hoping for some blue eggs tho

Agreed. Don't be suprized if they lay brown or tinted eggs.

Nice birds!! We have 6 EE, different ages, and while they looked similar as chicks (well dark ones and lighter ones), they are quite varied as grown chickens. Ours lay pastel to medium green, and olive green, and one lays more of a grey egg. Nice to have the color variety!

They look like they came right out of my yard. Lol.
I have 4 hatchery easter eggers. They all started out in varied colors but ended up mostly wheaten. Three lay various shades of blue and one lays light green.
I also have one that is the daughter of one of the original girls (with a blue laced ee rooster). She is a beautiful silver and buff lace & lays blue eggs. I'm looking forward to seeing the next generation of chicks.
Get a colorful (blue egger) rooster and enjoy!
