"Easter Egger" laying brown eggs--is this common?

Quote:
Thanks for posting the company you got your EE from, I am considering getting my first chickens from MPC and was debating on if I was going to get an EE after seeing this thread. I know it still is not a guaranty but it is good to know.

Any other MPC EE reports?

I've never had an EE lay a brown egg; had 3 over the years that laid a khaki/putty colored, but never brown. Most of mine lay blue or blue-green. Wish I knew which hatcheries they came from, but my birds were purchased from individuals or feed stores.

I have two EE (I ordered from mypetchicken.com) in my flock and they both crank out green eggs, we call them duck eggs. I am pleased with them because they are so mych easer to peel when boiled for some reason.

I have some awful experience with this. I purchased 2 "Ameraucana" pullets from a person who swore up and down that they would lay blue eggs only. So, I put them in with our Buffs since they have a large coop. As the time drew closer for them to start laying, I began to wonder since I was not getting any eggs from them. Hmm....

In the meantime, I was selling Buff Orpington eggs. I meantioned in my ads that there were 2 "Ameraucanas" in the pen with them. Low and behold, folks started calling and emailing saying that they were hatching chicks that looked "funny." Uh oh. So, I went out and separated them to another coop and.... BROWN EGGS!!!! OMG! I called that guy and chewed him out because he screwed me over and made me look bad to my customers. There are still a couple of folks that totally despise me because of this and honestly it was not my fault.

My EE's are from ideal and lay pretty blue to green eggs. No browns. They have mixed up characteristics. Some have muffs. A few are tailess but they lay pretty eggs at an excellent rate and I really like them.

I bought the 25 EE pullet special from MPC last September. Of the 25, two were roos (surprise!). I get a wide variety of colors from blue, light olive green, a teal green, peachy eggs, two lay pink, a couple lay brown. The majority of eggs are in the green spectrum, but some do lay brown. Because they are mixed breeds, you never really know what you will get from EEs.

My first few were from my local feed store - I can't remember which hatchery they buy from - all eggs are green or blue. I then bought 25 EEs from MPC and ended up keeping 6 of them - they've just started laying and so far, their eggs are blue and green also.

All my EEs from my local feed store grew up to be brown EEs (very pretty, but I wanted some more variety) - with my MPC order, there was a greater variety of colors - I kept my 6 favorites.

This is the color/type I had the most of:

These are the pullets I kept from MPC (minus the buff orpington in there)- MPC sells the pretty brown ones too, they just seem to have more variety than my feed store does:

Arizona - beautiful variety of hens u got from MPC! but then, you had 25 to choose from. that was smart of you to order so many and then pick what you want. i ordered 5 EE and i am keeping 4 of them. i wish i had ordered more EE to give me more of a chance of variety. out of the 5 EE that MPC sent me, one is a yellowish chick and 4 are the chipmunk patterns. out of the 4 chipmunks, one is kinda light and sprinkly looking, 2 are mediumish, and one is darkish. i'm wondering if those 4 will look alike when they mature? they're only a week old now. what did your MPC hens look like when they were babies? any pics?
