Hello,
These are my 12 week/3 mos. old EE's. They look almost identical except one's tail stands up and sometimes fans open like a turkey. I have never seen the other one do either of these two things.

Is the one in question a rooster?

Thanks for any input.
I really tried to take a good pic..sorry...this is my best.

Thanks for helping me figure out what I have!! :D :D

I love this website! Great people. I love people who own chickens!! lol

Yes, they're both pullets.

Sometimes tails will stick up different what you have to look for is the thin pointy feathers.

Best way to tell at this age is the color of the comb (and size).
Yours is definitely a girl because it's flesh colored. A roosters would already be red :)

Another way to sex when they are younger (like a week old) is that the girls will get feathered tails while the roos will still have the fluff on the tail for a few weeks no tail feathers. That's how I sex all my hatchlings and so far haven't been wrong once....

also a male will never come in that color pattern. It is a female color pattern only. Females have a overall pattern to there colors. Males when youngerr will have red patches and such by their shoulders. Not always but usually, you ocassionlay get the one that you don't know what it is until it lays an egg or crows lol.
