Easter Egger Rooster

Well, earlier this fall I asked the forum to identify a chicken I got at the feed store and memebers said she was an Easter Egger. Well she turned out to be a he when one day I saw him start crowing in the yard. Since then he has grown into a very large rooster. I would put him in the same catagory, size wise, of a Jersey Giant. Would this rooster make good breeding stock and what would he produce with my Rhode Island Reds.

Easter Eggers are difficult to sex until they crow. What you will have if you breed to your hens is unknown. They will be an interesting mix, though.

Was that the white bird you got with the Leghorn?

"Good breeding stock" depends on what you want to produce. Crossing this bird with your Red hens will give decent layers, not quite as good as momma in all likelihood. The pea comb on the rooster gives a good chance of blue egg genes, so crossing him with your brown layers should give mostly green egg laying pullet offspring, although you may get some brown egg layers also.

I'm not sure what kind of white the EE carry, if it's dominant or recessive. you'll likely get red and white birds, but black could be hiding under some of that white, so who knows what may pop out color wise

I like the Easter Eaggers. Mine are just turning 5 weeks. I am hopeful they are chicks but would not mind if one was a rock.
