Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

6 week old (probably?) pullet, but the comb is starting to get very pink. OTOH, she seems hen colored and, er, shaped. You guys are awesome for newbies trying to learn BTW.

Majority of the time, a comb like that indicates a cockerel. Some people have said they have had young pullets with combs like that, but it seems fairly rare. Look for red patches to come in on the wings and the comb to get pinker/redder in the next week or two, which would confirm a cockerel. Beautiful markings on that bird, and I agree the overall look is a pullet. However.... Will keep my fingers crossed for you if you are hoping for a pullet. Please update in a week or 2 or sooner if you see anything alarming!

Ok I know it has only been a week but tomorrow is the last shipment of chicks at our store. I think she is starting to look more pullet than roo especially when she is next to my gold laced Cochin roo so fingers crossed what do you think? I really want those dang green eggs!!

At 5 weeks

I have one lady that has a very clear 3 row as well but the middle one is slightly larger.

I've looked into her feathers as best I can, not exactly sure what I was looking for but I see nothing red, all her feathers coming in are grey down the the base with some gold/orange penciling around her neck. Here are some comb shots...

Eep, the one sexed chick we bought is turning out very suspiciously! Of course both straight-runs are turning out to be pullets...

Normally, I would thinks it's a cockerel, but if there are no other signs, there may still be hope for a pullet. Maybe some others will have thoughts about it tomorrow.

That gives me hope! I suppose if she is a he that only gives my husband less room to complain about the 20 ish chicks from a breeder I already have planned for next year...
