Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Quote: Did she have 3 rows at a young age? How old was she in those pics? I know pullets can get 3 rows when they are closer to 18 weeks, just have never seen it at 8 weeks, like happens with cockerels. Think that's rare. She's pretty!

It's no that rare, 50% of my EE pullets had distict 3 row combs when they were only a few weeks old last year. This years EE chicks are only a few weeks old, and I'm already seeing a lot of 3 row combs. I'm hoping they turn out to be pullets after all and this doesn't turn out to be the year to the rooster....

I think thee got lost along the way.

I agree they got lost. This board can get moving pretty fast sometimes. Can you give a comb photo for this chick? Based on even color I'd say pullet but I haven't yet had one this color to go off from if it is hen or rooster coloring

Yes you're correct they are not rare they are just uncommon in hen's. I had all 3 of my EE's hatch with 3 row combs only 1 being a rooster in my final hatch of last year.

Thank you Brittney! This is my first time 'raising' them. We got 10 that are 'supposed' to be females and they all look like pullets. This one just is confusing me and I think it's because of the crazy fluffy cheeks? I hope it's a she! Sorry about yours

thank you again for your help!

"Crazy fluffy cheeks", or "muffs" are a desirable feature in EEs, male and female.

When did your EE lay eggs? We have one that is 17.5 weeks and one that is 15 weeks. I am getting excited for the weeks ahead, hoping they aren't late bloomers.

Do you have a copy of War and Peace?

While some sex links might lay as early at 16 weeks, 20 weeks is early for most breeds and EEs aren't generally known to be early layers. Of the 7 chicks I got last June, the first to lay was an EE at 23 weeks, 2 days. The second a White Rock that started the next day. The other 2 EEs started at 26 weeks, 1 day and 30 weeks, 5 days.

Araucana or Ameraucana ?

No one if you get enough of them. The only time I can count my 16 is when they are eating their morning BOSS or evening scratch.

That is looking suspiciously pink and growing.
