I would vote pullet since this bird lays pretty blue eggs....

She is very pretty! They had a new shipment of chicks at the feed store yesterday, including a brooder full of the most adorable fluffy-cheeked EEs. They were so friendly too, crowding over on the side to say hello. Lucky for me they were not yet for sale (feed store policy gives newly shipped chicks 24-48hrs to recover before selling them) soooo I avoided temptation. Because I would have bought them all! Now I just have to keep away from the store for another week.

She had us all guessing as a baby but she is a sweet heart. A bit skittish and the absolute bottom of the pecking order but she lays like a machine and once caught will hang out in your lap pretty calmly, For the first 9 mos I said I wouldn't get any more EE's cause they were both such spazoids but now that I have had them for a bit they are growing on me, I would probably have more after our upcoming move. That is what keeps me safe at the feedstore, no more chicks till we find our new home in the next couple years.

Mine was straight-up ornery! She was okay with me but refused to play nice with the other chicks. She'd zero in on their eyeballs and relentlessly peck. She was the only EE that hatched from our pair and the only EE in the bunch. We ended up having to separate her as she was causing serious injury. She refused to be contained, found a way out of her run and got attacked by the neighbor's dog. So yeah, spaz fits perfectly. Still, I love my EE's. They're independent and unique and I get a kick out of watching them do the duck and run thing they do. Happy house hunting and good luck staying away from the feedstore chick bin.

I have 4 EE that are about 3.5 weeks old, and 11 other chicks of various breeds about 1.5 weeks old. The 4 EEs are very similar in temperament. They do not like to be held, spook easy, and cuddle with each other. So far it looks like one of the younger chicks is going to run the show. I'm going to attempt to post a few pictures.
Chick #1

This one has been feathering out the fastest. Comb is larger, but has not changed at all. It was a muddy dark brown chick.

This is puffball. My son's favorite and seems pullet-ish so far this was an orange chipmunk chick with puffy cheeks.

This one has been feathering out the slowest. It was yellow chipmunk with puffy cheeks.

This one was a lighter muddy brown chick.

I've really enjoyed reading through the thread and think I've learned a lot. I know it's early for gender guesses, but I really like the posts showing various stages of development. I have avoided naming any. I'm hoping the chicks my son has decided are name worthy stay pullets

I'll update as changes occur.

Looking forward to your updated posts and wondering where you got the chicks. Hatchery pullets? or straight run? From a breeder? I have my suspicions, but it's too early to be sure.

They are vent sexed hatchery pullets. I bought them from someone I found on Craigslist who buys in bulk and sells extras. Based on what they were selling, I would guess that they order from townline poultry farm. They are willing to take back any roosters and give a refund. I picked them up when they were 3 days old. I have someone else willing to take any extras or roosters too. We can only have 12 hens where I live. This a picture of them at 5 days old.

Great deal if the person will take any accidental cockerels. Seeing as how you have a 12 hen limit, but 15 chicks, the odds are now increased that you will get all pullets!!!

Good thing they run around a lot and are almost impossible to count! Even easier if you have several that look alike.
