Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

I think it's too early to tell on these "girls", they're about four weeks. But anyone want to make guesses? And admire how pretty they are

#1 - Buffle

She's the favorite. She jumps onto my shoulder whenever she gets a chance.

#2 - Novalee. She doesn't usually stand like that, she's very nervous and did not like being taken away to get a picture. I wonder about her because she has a the most striking coloring. She's very nervous and submissive.

#3 - Huckle. Huckle is super sweet and follows Buffle everywhere.

#4 - Tiny. Not my favorite, personality wise, but she seems smarter than a lot of our other chickens.

I'll post more pictures as they get older! For fun, here they are as babies:

They are very cute and although early I'm leaning toward girls. And BTW, I'm soooo jealous of the green grass and the little yellow flowers I see in your pictures. We just had snow yesterday

Where did you get your EEs? They're very cute

The third one doesn't look like your typical hatchery EE, looks instead like an EE crossed with a Silver Laced Wyandotte (it has no beard or muffs, no pea comb, and no green legs)--brown egg from this girl. Hopefully green/blue from the others. So far they all look female to me. 1, 2, and 4 have classic female EE coloring. Did you get them as sexed pullets?

Ok, I got a couple more pictures. They really don't like their pictures taken lol, they didn't cooperate.

Neither one of the combs are raised all that much, but the more I look at the combs the more red they start to look. I think #2 looks more red. But both still appear to be more of a salmon color than red or even pink.

These babies are just too cute! My little girls are 3 weeks, but look very similar to yours here. We chose a light, med and dark color. So we are hoping for a variety of colors from them. Sending good girly thoughts their way!

I just got them at a local feed store. I didn't think Huckle looked like an EE either! Even as a chick she had a different body shape, along with everything else you mentioned. Like you said, no muff (although of course Tiny doesn't have one either) and her leg color and comb are different. I actually don't know if they were sexed, I kind of bought them in a fog of baby-chick-cuteness without asking any questions.

Nicely rounded hackle feathers on Buffie. - Girl is my guess.

Glad you said Novalee doesn't normally stand that way - From other posts - classic make upright posture. Boy you sure have the "teen years" going on their. Head still looks like a week old chick, neck and back clearly pushing toward adult coloring. I'm leaning girl.

I agree, Huckle looks like they mailman dropped by

. You might note the yellow legs along with nothing similar to "usual" EE coloring. I don't know SLWs but if she is one, lucky you! They are pretty birds..

Hmmm, Tiny. I'm a little concerned about this one. Comb looks defined. Hard to tell with the hackle feathers since they aren't filled in as much as the other birds. Doesn't seem to have thick legs though so I could go either way at the moment.

Mine don't cooperate either, I think yours did quite well!

There is pink and there is PINK! I think you are good. The apparent "pointiness" of hackle feathers gets confusing with the feathers that have a "pointy" core in the feather and a different color on the outside. They LOOK pointy, especially from a distance, until you look at the whole feather.

one of my EE's...had to use the phone for the pic and the flash whited out the comb. this one was a light pink color.

And my second..same issue with the comb pic, but this one has had those orange feathers at the base of its neck come in just about over nite...pretty impressive! Both of these guys are 4 weeks old tomorrow.
