Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

oh im well aware that i have EE's...just posted it that way because thts what their tag said...i know better!

I know you knew! I was just taking the joke a little farther. No such breed as Americana with an i, but a good marketing ploy. Still think that if I was in the market for pure SOP Ams, I would go to a reputable breeder, and not to a hatchery, no matter what their claims.

I have a hatchery EE, a pure wheaten Am, and a pure wheaten/pure buff Am (so also EE!

) and I love them all. I think the names/labels are only important for effective communication. Seems most of the time it's more confusing than effective with these birds!

beauty is in the eye of the beholder...a rose by any other name still smells as sweet.

just one more thing for people to argue over...just be happy! i am!

Ok, I'll join in on the fun. Here are two of my older EE's.

about 6 weeks here

and the other one:

pictures are taken at same times as others. This one had no beard for a long time, they poof out it came! Its huge lol.

Anyone care to venture a guess? They were bought from Meyers as pullets.

Thanks,

Deb
Looove that last pic!

They both look like pullets, but sometimes the black and whites can be tricky. The white patches on the wings in the first pic look suspicious, but then later, filled in with the nice peach color. Sending girly thoughts your way!

The second one - my guess:definitely a girl (though you might want to get her checked, she seems to have an awfully big growth on her back

)

First one. Little bit of comb showing but the "reddish" patches are all over and not the mahogany red I would fear. Nor are they high up on the forward part of the wing. Can't really see the hackle feathers. I'm leaning girl here too.

Thank you Chris and everyone for sharing their expert advice on EE's! I am new to chickens and just got my first two EE's today! They are only a couple days old. So I will be watching to see what colors I get. I would love to have a yellow one! They are soooo beautiful!

I'll tell you, the one with a beard really has me worried, lol. First time chicken owner and I'm really having a hard time with a female and a beard. My mind sees the beard and thinks male. I really should be saying pullet and roo, ugh, all these new terms! Anyway I am glad you both are thinking pullets.

I love that picture of her too, I actually laughed out loud at it. And that growth, lol, wasn't really sure he wanted any part of chickens, but he sure is in a lot of the photos! And I've caught him playing with them too, he now says they are just OK! LOL

An added note about Murry Mcmuray Hatchery. I ordered 2 Easter Egger started pullets and they sent me two roosters. Their website says their sexing is right 90% of the time. They obviously messed up mine. I will say they didn't give me a hard time when I called and they are replacing my birds.
