Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

See I figured with my luck, they would both be Roos, lol. I wouldn't mind one, in fact I'm thinking I could probably use one for the girls protection. Maybe my luck is changing! Good to know they didn't give you a hard time. We're you able to keep them both, I'm not really sure how this all works if I do have a roo. Did you have to send in pictures or did they just take your word on it?

Ok, I'll join in on the fun. Here are two of my older EE's. about 6 weeks here today at 7w 5d's today 7w 5ds and the other one: pictures are taken at same times as others. This one had no beard for a long time, they poof out it came! Its huge lol. Anyone care to venture a guess? They were bought from Meyers as pullets. Thanks, Deb
they look like my cockerels did at that age, but I'm not 100%, lol

I'll tell you, the one with a beard really has me worried, lol. First time chicken owner and I'm really having a hard time with a female and a beard. My mind sees the beard and thinks male. I really should be saying pullet and roo, ugh, all these new terms! Anyway I am glad you both are thinking pullets.

I love that picture of her too, I actually laughed out loud at it. And that growth, lol, wasn't really sure he wanted any part of chickens, but he sure is in a lot of the photos! And I've caught him playing with them too, he now says they are just OK! LOL

Yup, with EEs you have to get used to bearded ladies! What you don't want to see is a prominent bright red cockerel comb. At least until they start to lay. The even distribution of the color pattern usually means a pullet (hen when she turns one year). That's why I am less sure about the first one. The black and whites can be very tricky!

Having a rooster with only one hen doesn't always work out so well. Depends on the rooster, of course, but if he only has one outlet for his 'attentions' the poor hen can be over-bred and pretty beat up. If you've got more than one girl though, a rooster is good to have around.

I am 90% sure that those are both pullets. I am 99% sure that the second one is a pullet.

Here's a photo of my black and white pullet Shelley, who looks a bit like your first chicken:

I agree that the splotchiness of the colors on your girl are a little wilder than I'd like to see, but so far still looks girly. Maybe you could give us a better comb shot?

I've got 15 pullets total, with 5 of those being EE's (5 BA, 2 BLRW and 3 Tetra Tints). The other 3 are a few weeks younger in another brooder. 9 - 8 week old's and 6 - 3 week old's. So a rooster or two isn't going to kill me lol, I will just have to redo some coop plans.

Here are a few cropped pics from yesterday, I will get better shots of those two today.

Thanks for all the help, and one day I'm sure we will all find out, but the wait is killing me lol.

People have posted this color type before, and it seems like they really do take awhile to show their sex. They like to torture you! Still wouldn't place any bets on the first one either way. There have been ones that look like that and have turned out both ways. Haha...you have to be prepared to wait, because once you find out you have girls, then comes the anxious wait to see what color the eggs will be!

You're right, a rooster won't kill you, but it may keep you from ever enjoying a lazy morning!

When i called Murry Mcmurry about my supposed to be started pullets i did almost have to laugh because a young girl said "wow, that's never happened before". Which I don't think is true becuase their website said they sexed correctly 90% of the time. I told them I had posted picutres on this site and all said they were roosters and she asked if they were crowing and I told her they do crow a full crow. She had to ask someone else, but came right back and said they would replace the birds. I am going to keep at least one of the roos, might keep both. Good luck!
