Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Here are some close-ups of my two EE's. they are about 3.5 weeks old here...still young but maybe someone can see something

It's too early to really tell. The top one has more of a comb, so if you have a cockerel, it will be that one. Is it part Wyandotte? Their rose combs look different than peas.

these are 100% IDEAL hatchery americaunas.....so that means EE

i couldnt tell you more than that. They are young...only about 3.5 weeks and i agree with you so far...gonna be needing to do a name swap for these guys if bonnie's comb keep growin...bonnie and clyde, my 2 EE's

Well, glad to hear they are purebred Americanas!

EEs seem like they grow fast. You'll probably know in a couple of weeks. Fingers crossed for Bonnie and Claudette.

No, Ideal doesn't sell Americana. They sell Ameraucana. Which means EE in their case.

Some places do sell "Americana" which isn't a breed so they are at least a LITTLE honest about it. But misspelling the name of an actual breed is sort of sleazy, like they are hoping to snag the unwary who have decided they want an Ameraucana and Americana sounds close enough.

Murry McMurry goes one better selling "Araucanas/Americanas".
First, Araucanas are rumpless chickens. They are NOT selling Araucanas.
Second, their description starts out "The "Easter Egg Chicken".
Don't know why they just don't call them Easter Eggers right up front.

On the other side, Meyer has both Ameraucana (Blue and Wheaten. Really expensive, $20 for a pullet chick. They darn well better be 110% on their sexing for that kind of money) and Easter Eggers listed for sale.
They are specific on the Ameraucana pages that they are NOT to be confused with EEs because they are pure bred.
AND they acknowledge that the blues don't always breed true so you might get blue, black or splash, hatchery choice.

Sounds like HONESTY! WOW.

Anyone care to venture a guess? They were bought from Meyers as pullets.
