Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

They can get away from it, but it is mainly for when it gets cold at night, and since it is raining it is cool today. Phew, I am glad they should both be pullets! I thought May was, just making sure, but why does May have such a small tail? Will she always have a short tail?

I am glad Hedwig seems to be a pullet, of course she could be a slow grower.. But I was told they were pullets, but they were only 4 weeks then, I've always thougth May was a pullet, but Hedwig I wasn't sure of.

Thank you! I do hope Claudia is a pullet, I like her coloring and green legs. Could these be bantam EE? They appear smaller than pictures of other chicks of similar ages, also are smaller than the Orps and Rocks I've raised. I bought them at Wilco, my first EE's and first time purchasing hatchery stock.
Was there a big size difference when you got them as chicks? Even as chicks, bantams are significantly smaller. They look healthy; as long as they eat well and are active they should be fine. Bantam eggs are cute too!

please tell me this is not a crow, sex and breed are in question. He/she is not the friendliest and hates to be touched, also likes to beat up the other hens

Just like people, chickens are individuals and can develop at different rates. Given their colors, I imagine they had completely different parents. I don't think May's tail is short, it's a typical EE pullet tail. It's Hedwig that has a long tail.

I thought it was short, This is my first time with chickens though.. :)

I don't know, I bought them together, and the lady hatched them so I dunno.. they could be slightly related, they are the same age.. I call them sisters.

Why does Hedwig have a long tail then?

Leghorns have long tails and dominant white. She may well be part Leghorn.

As I've seen many people quote before... "Life is like a box of chocolates..you never know what your gonna get".. that's exactly how EE are. .. they are a mutt chicken. Bred with many different breeds. So you really never do know what your gonna get unless you breed them yourself and understand genetics... With that being said. Different breeds have more of a tail than others and/or grow at different rates... May has the typical EE pullet tail. As she feathers out more it will grow fuller.
