Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Question: are there any behaviors that could help determine gender?( I'll wait another week before posting pics again) My babies are 5 weeks old today. I was looking them over and when I put the most-likely-a-pullet chick back in with the other two, she pecked one of the others a few good pecks. Maybe I'm grasping at straws, but I thought I read somewhere that roos chest bump and hens peck. Think there's any truth to that? Or is it just too early to look at behavior?

Ok. I think I finally know what I have and my EEs are almost ten weeks-old! I think the easiest way for me to be sure was their tail feathers. Between 6-9 weeks the pointedness was very obvious in the males. Its very clear in the pic below in the lighter feathered chicks. From left to right I'm now almost certain they are f m m f m m m.

Hopefully I will get much better at this for future hatches. Thanks for all the tips. I think I would still be clueless without this forum.

I dunno that tail pointiness is as good a way to tell as color pattern and comb are

I agree with lonelypage... I don't think u can Really tell from "tail pointiness"..not at that age anyway. From what I see it looks like u have at least 3 maybe 4 roos...need better pics individually to tell for sure. Such as a comb pic, side pic, and overhead pic. Then we should be able to help u determime

I don't believe those behaviors determine the sex of the chick at that age. I have three 7 week old EE pullets and they always run up and bump each other and peck at each other... That's how the figure out the pecking order. Hope this helps... Post pics next week and hopefully we can help ya out.

#1...Combs make me think pullet

#2 I think is a roo
#3 Pullet Comb pretty pink????
#4 Comb is still light..Pullet? Don't know about the chest coloring??
# 5 Still pink comb...Pullet?

Just my guesses? ....What do you think??

#1...Combs make me think pullet Yes, pullet.

#2 I think is a roo Pullet by coloring, unless the brick red color is not showing in the pic.
#3 Pullet Comb pretty pink???? Comb and coloring don't match. A cockerel would have red on wings, so thinking pullet for this one, but how old again?
#4 Comb is still light..Pullet? Don't know about the chest coloring?? Pullet!
# 5 Still pink comb...Pullet? Yes!

Just my guesses? ....What do you think??
