I have been calling the light colored EE wheaten,up close she looks very Ameraucana so I m guessing she/ he is a mix with a wheaten ameraucana. I was hoping there was a trick to knowing gender of black colored ones it was the only black in the bin so of course I had to have it. hoping they are all pullets but I have a welsummer so if its a roo maybe I can get so olive eggers![]()
The comb is the only early clue for the solid colored ones. Compare it to your other EE pullets, and if it is not markedly different, you can assume another pullet. The pullets tend to get a single raised ridge running down the center. Cockerels get a wide or fat ridge, looks more like 3 lumpy ridges running side by side. Usually you can see a difference by 5-6 weeks. If you post a closeup of the black's comb and maybe we can tell. ** This is only good for the birds with pea combs.
