Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

So are you saying this 10 week old "pullet" might really be a roo because she has splashes of color on her wings??
Here she is on the left of RIR. Her comb is still yellow. No pink at all. What is your verdict?

Looks like a pullet to me. Pullets can have color spread through the wings too, but I mean spread. It isn't too common though but does happen with silver females carrying mahogany or the pattern gene. She's got red in her secondaries too, see the back of the wing feathers? And I'd imagine if you look closely she'll have color, probably quite pale, coming up in her breast too. She's probably going to mature to look partially laced or spangled, which is one of the few colorations that allow red/orange in the wings in females. It only happens with silvers though.

Here's an adult example of this rare occasion: (not my bird) Notice how like yours she is a silver spangled with a duckwing base. What I mean is, the speckling on the white breast, the dark neck, the lacing throughout the body in various patterns. The difference is, the girl is blue and is older, yours may or may not have as much red as her.

She is.

Well, judging red right now is rather risky and unfair, but the main thing is the comb complexity. Often a very young chick with a well defined pea comb of three rows will be a boy, while pullets hardly show much of a true pea comb, more of just a little lump between the eyes.

But again like said, way too young to tell really.

Just wanted to give props to Illia,

You guessed my chicks correctly at a tender age of 4 weeks old! Coco was indeed a boy, as was "freya" who has now been renamed Frederick. LOL Coco has been re-homed with some lovely EE ladies a week older than him. Fred stays here. Coco's brown feathers fell out, he became mostly black with some charcoaly feathers with black lacing, red shoulders and tail feathers. Fred is a surprise. Still lots of brown and tan striped feathers but his head is coming in white and black, wings deep rust and tail black.
