Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

one of my EE's...had to use the phone for the pic and the flash whited out the comb. this one was a light pink color.

And my second..same issue with the comb pic, but this one has had those orange feathers at the base of its neck come in just about over nite...pretty impressive! Both of these guys are 4 weeks old tomorrow.

Both of these look like pullets right now. The orange in the second one is the pale pullet version, not the dark cockerel version. Watch for it to appear on the shoulders. Otherwise, you're looking at two girls. If anything, I would be concerned about the top one; just watch its comb for more development.

not concerned...just curious. I am allowed to have roos and want about 2 out of the entire flock. some of the other breeds i have were sexed pullets so i am rooster ready.

Aha, in that case, you might be disappointed

LOL, i have heard so many horror stories about people ending up with all roosters, and i figured with my luck that would be my experience...so far of the 15 chicks i have, not a one is showing any significant roo characteristics at all. crazy!

Isn't that the truth! Haha! I know they say you have a 50-50 chance. In my personal opinion, in most species, more males are born than females because statistically the females live longer than the males. So in the end the ratio evens itself out. We hatched some eggs out about 6 weeks ago and it looks like 4 of the 5 we decided to keep have turned out to be roosters! *sigh*

Ok my girls are a little older now, what does everyone think? They are 5 1/2 weeks old.

This is Marigold, but I think she might actually be a Marvin:

This is Moneypenny, whose feathering looks pretty ragged right now. Pretty sure she's a she.

Here are them together. On Moneypenny I see a single row of tiny peas. I don't see anything on Marigold/Marvin.

Thank you!
