Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Here are my six 5 week old EE chicks. They were part of a Hatchery Surprise order, so straight run. One of them has a slightly more pronounced comb than the other five. I am actually hoping for another EE Rooster in addition to the one I posted a few posts back, the grey one. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I know they are still young, and it was around 7 or so weeks old that I read this post with my first batch and spotted my obvious roo in my first batch of chicks (the grey one). I probably would have spotted him earlier, but I was out of town for ten days and came back, looked at him, and bam, he was no longer the pullet I thought him to be (suppsed to be from a sexed bin of EE pullets, but then again, I got an unknown breed chick from the same bin that was supposed to be an EE).

The first time I got EEs, I picked out a variety of colors from their chicks, and ended up with a variety in my flock. I got lucky with my surprise babies, and ended up with such a rainbow of colors there too. I am happy with them. I love EEs, and live in the country, so getting a roo or two for my girls wouldn't be a bad thing. Most of them look girly to me so far. My big girl from my first bunch, Rose, looks so much like an owl. And Lucy, the one in my avatar that landed on my head, is my cross beaked EE. We have babied her, so she is spoiled. She flew straight from the ground to the top of my head when I was out there taking pics of the new coop. She didn't even make a pit stop on my shoulder or arm. Straight to my head. My mom says I was going for the Radagast the Brown look with that picture.

I have several different kinds of chickens. It's an orangey yellow tan color. Not dark though. Some of them kinda are "hunkering" down when I walk up to them. Pretty cool. :)

so u think she is a cockeral
she does have some dark
on her
so we can only keep her if shes a pullet or hen
i was told she was a cockeral bysomeone and then by someone else i was told she was a pullet

we already have 3 hens and we cant have a rooster
i really hope a hen

No, I think she's a pullet based only on the comb. Cockerel's combs mostly start turning red around 6 weeks, so you may have to wait a week or 2 more to be sure. If the comb stays pale as it is now, then I'd expect a female. How old is s/he?

Wow. I don't see any obvious cockerels (yet). Maybe this is a sexed group by mistake which makes up for the errors in your last order! I really like the dark one (#1), such rich colors. Keep us posted if some start looking rooish.

I think the first one looks like a Wyandotte (mix). Looks more like a rose comb to me. The white one should be giving you eggs soon for sure!

Just wishin I knew who laid it. But it's the greatest feeling. I'm thinking of selling some of them. I just don't want them to be someone's dinner.

I agree with Flowerrbh, the white one looks the most mature. Check to see who's interested in the nest boxes.

Hi,

I wondering if my EE is a pullet or a roo? "Belle" is a 9 week old EE purchased from a hatchery. "She" is I think 2nd in to the top dog (so far) in a group of 4, but otherwise is not crowing, dosen't act protective of the group or any of the other rooster type behaviors. What do you think?
