Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

To your question about my gray bird (Dale), the comb is still not red or pink yet.

As for Chip, no pink/red yet either they are 9 weeks old.

This lovely bird, Mooshu, is showing a little darkening of the comb.

I was hoping for all hens. I don't want to have too many roosters since they become combative.

Here's my blue girl I hatched out myself .. don't know which of the three americaunas are her mom but none are blue .. and neigther was her daddy ... shes inseperable from her hatch mate the splash pullet in the pic with her. Cant wait for them to start layin to see what color their eggs are ..

Can anyone help me with mine? all are about 21 weeks and Ive yet to see a blue/green egg!
Are you seeing any eggs? Mine are 23 weeks and I have 1 finally squatting for about week now. I am looking for an egg from her in the next couple of days. I am no expert... so, from what I have read, EE are little later then other chickens. They start anywhere from 22 to 26 weeks old. Good luck and I hope you get a pretty colored egg. I will post our first soon, I hope.

Three Trees, they are pullets. The age when they start laying varies greatly. I have one that started a day shy of 20 weeks but most of them have been more like 23-26. I had one wait until 32. Yours aren't looking especially red so it may be a while, yet.

There is a gene called BBS (blue-black-splash). Can't remember exactly how it works. Depends on the combination to produce the colors. Parents must have been black or splash. Your blue girl is very pretty. Wish I had some blues. Some day.

I also got a pretty blue hen (she's actually barred, but you can't see it hardly at all) from an easter egger hen and a black sex link rooster. I do have one Easter egger hen who has the kind of blue wheaton-ish coloring, I figured that must be her momma cause all my other ee hens are either partridge looking or gold and white. I'd love to know how to hatch out more of her!

Can you tell at 5 wks the sex of EE? I need to split my group, and my mom wants a Roo.
