Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Don't know how I missed this thread, but I'll add my pics of Marshmallow. He/She will be four weeks old tomorrow. Roo or pullet?

I was told I should bring my question about my babies over here to the experts after I posted a new thread! I have two different "batches" three are six week old Blue americauna/ barred rock? mixes & 5 are TSC easter eggers.

Here are the 4 week old TSC babies

Pullet? It is feathering in silver so that makes me wonder if it might be a boy, but its comb is very small.

pullet?

pullet?

I am not really sure on this one... maybe pullet?

DEFINITELY a cockerel. Its little comb is SUPER red!

Here are the 7 week old Blue Ameraucana /Barred rock? crosses sold to me as purebred from show quality lines (saw parents), but daddy must have been a fence hopping barred rock....

pullet?

I'm afraid this one may be a cockerel. Its tail looks odd and its comb is wider & pinker than the others.

pullet?

Thanks for any input guys! These are my first easter eggers or anything besides straight combs actually.

@mimimoo : From the comb, i'm thinking rooster. Can you see 3 separate rows of peas?

Mimimoo, that's a cockerel.

Barefootbabies, only answering for the EEs:
Pullet, pullet, need a side shot but suspect cockerel, need a side shot but suspect pullet, cockerel.

They are ALL technically EEs lol I just gave a background on what was used to MAKE non hatchery three in case it helped. & thanks for your opinion. Here is a side shot of the one you said you thought might be a cockerel but needed a side shot.

I agree with your predictions about the TSC EEs, all pullets and the last one a cockerel.

On the pure Ameraucana show birds

(they're pretty, though!) the last one looks like a pullet, but not sure on the first two. It seems to me that silver based birds can have more red in the combs at a younger age, so it makes predictions more difficult. If blue Ams were bred to something like a BR, you won't get the tell tail red on the wings either. I can't see much difference between the first two from your pics, but at 7 weeks it's a tough call. I would expect a brighter red at this age for cockerels, so kind of leaning toward pullets, but really not sure because colors in pics on computer monitors are pretty unreliable. Hope you didn't pay an arm and a leg for these guys, or at least got an arm refunded!

Hope you will give us an update in a week or two.

Yes, of course. I missed the word "typical" in there. The other three are obviously not your typical EEs. That third is almost certainly a pullet at this point but the other two have me shrugging. And your patterned one above looks more pullety in this shot. The red ones always make me nervous.

With all the great tips and information coming from here- I was wondering if anyone could lend some advice. I have 6 EE's about 13 weeks old. Two of them I question if they are roos or hens. Haven't heard any crowing attempts yet, but..... The first 2 pictures are the one I am most skeptical about- starting to get red in the wings, and different tail feathers. The 3rd pic is one that just looks different than the others, and makes me wonder.... Somewhat new to "chicken farming" so any input is appreciated!
So, that solid white one is a girl? Is mine a girl? It's about the same age as this one and it has the same size comb and everything. Anyone have any ideas??

[/IMG] I hope it's female judging from your pictures because they're identical

@chickenlver2013 - I am 90% sure the white EE of Hoppy hens is a cockerel due to the rust/red color on the wings and the curvy tail. Your EE looks exactly like that? Red on wings and curvy tail? Doesn't look like it to me in the picture.

I have never had a chick that developed those two big curvy tail feathers like Hoppy Hens white one that didn't end up a roo... The top looks just like a chick I had previously, the red darkened & sure enough it crowed.
