here are a few pics of three of my EE babies...they are 4 weeks old. TWO have gold on their shoulders and around their bodies and one is just black and white barred. i'm thinking the black and white one is a pullet and the other two are roos...any ideas? the "pullet" is in the middle of these pics

They are too young to be be sure, but I think you might be right. The one on the left has a large-ish comb that looks a little pink in the pic, so I would expect that one to be a male. If you can post pics next week, we might be able to tell. Try to get close ups of the combs.

Alright, tried to get a few pictures of my 3 Easter Egger/Dominique crosses... Any new guesses on gender? They are 12.5 weeks old now. The one golden rooster pictured is from the same hatch but is crossed with RIR, showed him for reference.

The rose combs are tough. Third one with the smooth face has the bigger looking comb, and also has the big tail? Maybe a cockerel??? The other two, by comparison, look more like pullets. With the barred birds, the males have thicker bands of white, so look lighter overall. In the last pic, the center bird looks slightly lighter than the other two, but not enough to call it one way or another. So I guess I can definitively say... I have no idea.

Look for saddle feathers coming in on the beardless one and post again next week if you can. I'm curious to see how they mature.

Thanks for your input, I am having a hard time deciding on these 3... I am learning towards the one with the smooth face being a rooster, and the other two pullets, their posture and behavior seem more like pullets (all 3 of them), but the comb on the one without the puffy cheeks is much wider and redder than the other two. Still only having crowing from my one Rhode Island Red cross from this hatch (I re-homed the other two roosters already).

Hopefully I have two pullets here!

I'll go ahead and take a shot at this, though my EEs may be a tad young - they're right around 7 weeks, give or take a day or two.

This is Munk. I'm was really hoping for a pullet since I can tell this will be a pretty, flashy bird, but my gut is telling me otherwise. It's a very skittish, defiant, "play by my own rules" sort of bird. Frequently challenges the large Buff Orpington cockerel in the flock.

Here we have Mugsy. Very friendly, docile bird. I'm thinking pullet due to lack of color in the comb.



Here we have Bertie. Very shy, but friendly if you can catch her. I'm almost certain it's a pullet due primarily to coloration, but the lack of comb seems like confirmation. Couldn't get a better picture, even with the 200mm zoom lens - she kept hiding and zipping around. She's also our runt.




Finally, this is Bugsy - Mugsy's partner in crime. She got her name from her insatiable appetite for insects, even from the ripe old age of 5 days. She also was the first to eat crumbles from my hand. (You can see Bertie's chest in the upper right, if that's any more help to go along with her previous picture).

ditto from me! "Flashy" birds are almost always cockerels.

Also, Munk has a comb with 3 rows (3 parallel ridges) which is another cockerel trait. Check Bertie for 3 rows, since we are unsure about this one.

I think they are both roosters and that Chiquita is just a little slower maturing. You took some AWESOME comb shots and that is why I think that Chiquita is a cockerel. IF it would have been just the two of them together, I would have said you have a pair. THINK is the key word though on Chiquita. (Pretty sure) When my EEs were questionable I was still holding out for hope. Thanks for the updated photos! I would love to see Chiquita in a few weeks!
