Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Ah, W4W is playing the odds

True, IF you bought it from a big hatchery as a pullet, the odds are very good that it is one. Knock on wood, both Ideal in 2012 and Meyer in 2015 were 100% accurate with mine. I guess those people get pretty good at checking up a newly hatched chick's vent.

If you got it at a local store, well chicks have been known to get mixed up in the bins.

I got these 2 chooks from the feed store and was told they were sexed 85-95% female. They were labelled Ameraucana but I assume they are actually Easter Eggers. I've been worried that one or both of my chicks are Roos since 4 weeks. They are now around 6 weeks. Neither have yellow combs. The red/brown one is a few days older and has a slightly darker comb but in photo 4 your can see where the lighter one's comb is starting to darken on the side slightly. The brown/red one is looking and acting more ladylike. Brown/red one seems very timid but sweet and is developing more of a hen like body, tail and feather pattern. The lighter one has a slightly lighter comb and round hackles, but has become more dominant and likes to chase the brown one. It has even tried to challenge my much larger, year old hens. It's feather color, splotchy pattern, pointy tail and aggressiveness make me worried that it is a rooster?? I just wanted to see if I may be wrong before attempting to re-home. What to you guys think? I hope they're not both Roos.

The brown one is definitely a cockerel, that comb is just too pink. Not sure about the black and white one.

Behavior at this age is not the best indicator of sex. The gold one has no sign of dark red feathers coming in on the wing, but the comb has more color than you would expect for a pullet. I agree it looks more like a pullet, body shape wise, but you can't discount that comb. White one could go either way. If they were mine, I'd keep them at least another week to be sure. If it's a cockerel, the gold one will get a raspberry pink comb (instead of that peachy color) and watch carefully for dark red feathers coming in on the wings. If you decide to keep them, I'd love to see how they look in a week.
