Easter Egger Thread!

She sure is very pretty! I guess it is hard to try to domesticate a chicken that hasn't been raised with humans, but I'm sure she'll come around! I have this Blue Cochin who I cuddled with and loved when she was a chick, but now she HATES being touched or held, but she will wearily eat out of your hand. My hens are only 4-5 months old, so they're still pretty small. :)

Is that the one in the photo? Pretty!
Yeah, the previous owner had her kids pick out the two pullets and basically gave them to the Australop- they've been around people but I don't think they have been held much as pullets. Both look to her for everything- perhaps will change when they get older?
One has already started to distance herself from the Australop but is still cagey

Her name is Elsa and she is attached to the hip of her foster mom Lope (Gerta)
I just obtained her almost two mos ago and the dynamic is set - it's good she has a protector and role model Chicken such as an Australope but she and the other Pullet are cagey around humans as a result. Elsa is fairly small and docile but we love her and try as much as possible to get her more domesticated

That is cute! I love Australorps. Your little Elsa is definitely a hen. :D

Your hens are ADORABLE! Missing beard, huh? This is my first time with chickens and I have a brown EE and I have this really pretty black and white EE bantam, she already has her beard, but the non-bantam doesn't.. Is that normal? Also, the larger EE has a bump at the top of her comb that just blocks out the normal comb.. Is that normal? I can try getting a picture. Can you imagine having a flock of EEs? :love

Where did you get your larger easter egger? Bearded chickens have beards from hatching (it just looks like a little puff on their chin when they are peeps though) so if your non-bantam has never had a beard... than it won't get one. :) However, I just learned that some easter Eggers are available (from hatcheries) without beards.

About the bump on the head... that sounds interesting... Do you mean a crest? A crest would mean she is not an easter egger... or a mix. I hope you can get pictures! Can't wait to see her. :D

My EE hens are very friendly, the best fliers, and smarter than the rest of the flock. But not my rooster -- he was a cuddler, but then hormones hit and now he's a HUGE jerk to me.

My group was raised in our only bathroom, so months of human interaction has made them pretty lovey dovey overall.

Again, really pretty! I do find that my EE is my moms favorite too! Unfortunately most roosters do become mean.. I find that if you raise them inside its easier for you to just go up to them and play with them for hours, and they end up being so sweet!

I got all my hens from MPC. (My Pet Chicken) So, she'll never have a beard? Thats alright, it doesn't matter, she's still so cute! I don't think she had one.. I'm going to post the pics right after this one because I'm having a hard time with this lol.

Easter Eggers (at least all the ones I have owned & met) are very friendly towards people when raised with humans. :D Mine have always loved attention too.

Below (top to bottom): Abby, one of my Easter Eggers. :) She lays beautiful green eggs with brown speckles. Mareeonna (my brother named him when he was little... thus the odd spelling). She layed cream/white eggs. :)

Note about the missing beard on Abby: She used to have one but after her last molt, she never got it back... She is free of external parasites. It is a little odd. I also have a Black Sexlink that did not grow in her downy feathers on her rump after molting... she was clean as a chicken can be. However, with the following year's molt, she regrew the feathers on her bottom. Hmmm...View attachment 1127784 I know they look different but they where both brown easter Eggers labeled "Americanas" in the feed store. :p Since easter Eggers are not a breed, they are not always the same.View attachment 1127787
Oh, I might have a purebred EE..... she looks exactly like your bottom picture. Except she has a standard comb and no beard. There is Buff Brahma somewhere in her roots!

Brown is the normal sized EE and the black and white one is the bantam. (Sorry for the blurriness, they don't stop moving! :p) I also have an Australorp, let me know if you want to see her. :)View attachment 1128070 View attachment 1128055 View attachment 1128058 View attachment 1128059 View attachment 1128061 View attachment 1128063 View attachment 1128052

They are beautiful! :D I love the white and black pattern on the bantie. Are you positive that the dark brown is an EE? She looks similar in some ways to my Blacky (which is a mix). :)
