Easter Egger?

Yep, that's an easter egger. You just had poor luck with egg color.

Most of the time if the bird has a pea comb you can pretty much be sure that you will get a blue, green or khaki egg. The blue egg gene is very close to the pea comb gene and usually when you get one you get the other.

Sometimes though it doesn't always work that way.

Darn it.

I have an EE chick that hopefully will give me colored eggs.

Thanks!

Is leg color an indicator? I noticed yours has yellow legs, but mine all have slate colored legs. They each lay a green egg, one is very vibrant blue-green and the other 3 are more an olive coloring.

Edited to add, all four of mine are also pea combed. I think the closer you stick to the ameracauna & aracauna type, the better the chances are that you'll get the green colored eggs.

Yes and no. The genes for pea comb and O gene(it causes the blue or green eggs) are very close to each other. However most pea combed birds don't have O- brahmas, asil etc. A mix of peacombed O bird with an asil would have mostly pea combed offspring but still can't guess which pullets are likely to lay green or blue eggs. There are a lot of pea combed EE that lay tan or brown eggs(showing they lack the O gene yet have the pea combs) so the pea and O linkage is not reliable for those birds.

It IS a good indicator between crosses of birds with O and single combed birds though.

lfoose's hen has a single comb so the chances of her laying green or blue eggs already were almost nil. Sorry.

If it's important to get blue or green eggs from EE, it's best to get several pullets and then cull them out if necessary after they start laying.
