I had a dickens of a time getting a decent pic of those eggs! In almost every pic, they looked white, under all types of lighting.

Put the eggs on something WHITE (a sheet or piece of paper) then take the pic, under the best light you can get without glare... indirect sunlight and a macro setting on your camera. I think we'll see the color variations well.​

What a fun post. Barg so what have you found if green legs then lay green eggs? What other trends?

I also wonder if you got EEs as chicks if their leg color was already evident?
Did the white hens as chicks look like the other chipmunk striped EEs (hope that was the correct way to describe it)?
Could you see poofer feathers on the check as a chick that later developed into the tuffs and beards? Hope I got the terms right there too.

Where are the chickens getting adopted from?

All your hens are so beautiful. Just love the fun of the colored eggs.

I have to admit, although I love seeing the pics of everyone birds and eggs, there are several posts that lack all the information to make any actual inferences.
It is still a very fun and interesting thread, and a great excuse to post your chickens and eggs but so far I have not seen any significant trends based on the information within this thread.

The most significant finding I’ve been able to glean from this is that, the more your chicken has the associated traits IE: (Green legs, Beard, Muffs, and Pea Comb), the more likely you are to get green/blue eggs.

I have also found that many people have what are called EE's, but are really just rejects from the Araucana or Ameraucana breeds and are not the true Mutts that are the preferred choice of the EE.

Further, it is sad that the EE has been so carelessly, and in some cases intentionally, associated with these obvious half breed rejects, and that the integrity of the EE has been so vehemently tainted by such inaccurate labeling.
The many hatcheries that insult the proud EE by referring to them as Araucana's or Ameraucana's only serve to add insult to injury.

It is my hope that those who are involved with the breeding of these great creatures are careful to breed carelessly and never use such destructive practices as "breeding back" or "establishing lines"
The future of the EE may be in danger and it just may be that someday the line could be destroyed with the stroke of a pencil and a declaration by the A.P.A. ; we can only hope it never comes to that.

Sorry, trying not to derail the thread....But what does a pea comb look like? Is this a pea comb? This is one of my EE's.

I have assumed that Esther has a Pea comb, it doesnt look like any of my other chickens combs at her age and it does look like what I expect a pea comb to look like.
This is esther at 16 weeks, her comb has not matured yet and at 20 weeks looks largely the same as it does in this pic.

This is Emerald at 13 weeks old. The Australorps matured earlier then the EE and by 20 weeks had a fully mature comb and wattles.

I am not an expert on pea combs but with the riges I see on your EE, I'm thinking that might be a single comb.

How old is the bird?

When I said that having more EE traits seems to give you a better chance of getting blue green eggs, that doesn't garentee anything one way or the other, there are plenty of examples of chickens that violate that statement both in this thread and on the board on general, but it does seem that the more EE traits the bird has, the more likely it is to produce blue green eggs, just not 100 %

Others may disagree.

Added: looking again at your EE's comb, im a little baffled, my eyes arnt that good and that pic is very close up... (nice job on that) maybe its the closeness of the pic that is making the ridges seem more prominant then they really are;
Either way, your chicken does have beard and muffs... what color are the legs?
Added: the comb on your Ee is not mature yet, I can tell you that much.. and it's going to look alot different. If it happens like it did with my older girls, the change will happen suddenly, almost over night.

Thanks so much Barg for your knowledgable answers and everyones wonderful pictures and sharing info. I do hope the breeders work on the breed to keep it more pure.

that being said at our local feed store that gets chicks from Privet and calls them Ameracanna. When I was looking at these adorable babies some looked to have green legs and little poofie cheeks. The chicks were under a week.

I am thinking of ordering from Ideal because they are closer to our NM home and have some intresting sexed dark egg layers.

So can you see some of the breed charasticists when they are chicks or am I seeing things.

Here is esther at about 2-3 days old.
I think you can see the puffyness where her beard will be and her green legs are pretty obvious.
