Easter Eggers from Ideal

I have about 12 EE's from Ideal, and 1 of them is actually an ameracauna (spelling?) I think 1 of them lay a tan colored egg and the rest lay a green or blueishgreen egg and 1 or 2 lay an olive colored egg.

Here you go:
The greenies in this box are from my Ideal EE next to some barred rock and little white buttercup eggs. They are a perfect, large size and up until November she laid one of these every single day. Since the weather got cold she has stopped laying.
She is a reddish color and I got her at the feed store from a little flock that all looked identical except for one which was white and black. I wish now I had gotten two chicks from that flock-Her eggs are beauties.

I lucked out with her I think. Her eggs are so brightly colored. I wasn't expecting it at all. She was a $2 feed store bird. -go figure

Maybe I should hatch a few of her eggs out. I would need an EE roo, though. All I have are Black Copper Marans roos.

My 2 EEs from Ideal lay a blue/green egg. They lay at least 5 eggs per week. Great producers and beautiful birds. My only gripe is that they were sold as Ameracaunas when they were really EEs. It didn't really matter because I just wanted colored egg layers, but I do think you should accurately advertise what you are selling.

Yes, I think they were calling mine an Ameraucana and she doesn't have the muff and beard is obviously an EE
But, I think most of the big hatcheries do that

I have 4 EEs from Cackle--all with pea combs--and the two that have begun to lay both lay a light tan/pinkish egg. One hen is sort of a light sandy orange color and the other is mostly white with gray muffs and beard. I hope the dark colored girls will lay a green or bluish egg.

Well, my understanding of it is that Ameraucana is an officially recognized breed and accepted by the APA. EEs are birds who have the blue/green egg gene, but don't meet the Ameraucana Standard. They are mutts. But you know, I was wondering about some of these EEs the hatcheries produce. If the hatcheries are only concentrating on egg color and egg production, then it seems to me that they would have an easier time producing birds that lay very colorful eggs and lots of them. They aren't burdened by the breed standard. I was wondering if that was why my feed store bird has more colorful eggs than some of the pure bred Ameraucana eggs I have seen.

I have two EE's from Ideal. One lays huge blue/green eggs...around 5 per week! The other layed very small blue/green eggs, but became broody. She never wanted to lay these eggs in the hen house. She preferred to lay them 150 feet away in a tupperware box under a patio chair. Why there? I have no idea, but she laid claim to the area (squawking alot), so I put a box out for her. She layed there for around three months then spontaneously quit laying all together. That was last August. Then, starting 4 days ago...she just started up again. Small blue/green eggs, every other day.

Funny, now that Beatrice is laying again, my other EE, Scramble, is not. She ceased laying around 3 weeks ago. Of course, all of my 16 girls have slowed down the egg-laying due to the shorter days of winter.

Hope this helps!

Brian
