much better picture of Muffin - Still not acting like a roo and her comb is not as red as the others so I decided to post another picture. when we pick her up she coos and is calm not like the roos who want nothing to do with you... so I though we could review again..

How old is muffin now?

That comb is still bigger than my EE hens.

The saddle feathers are hiding in most of those pics though.

One like the top one but a little farther back will be good.

Some cockerels are the friendliest birds of all

... and end up being ******** that attack the human that thought they were building a trusting relationship.

I had 1 lap cockerel... now charges me at the fence, but didn't start acting different until hitting the mating age. Then all bets were off and he even tried to pull a pullet out of my lap.

ETA: their perceived "friendliness" is often confidence.

Some roos stay sweet and tame forever though! I had an EE rooster named Cowboy for years (a rescued chick raised by my broody hen) Even after he had grown, had his "wifey" and raised a batch of chicks of his own (such a great dad too! He let his chicks ride around on his back and call them to any bug he'd find) he would still come in the house, jump up on the sofa onto my lap and want cuddles.

But I've also had a brat named Giovanni that attacked me any time I turned my back lol.

That's so cool! I have 1 of my chicks rides its' mama around on her back... it is so amusing to see.

9 weeks is still young for crowing, most of the time.

Don't see any good pointy saddle feathers yet. But I will be seriously surprised if that turns into a girl. Muffin is a boy still!

My last Ameraucana boy didn't crow until almost 20 weeks I think, maybe 18.

The "friendly" young cockerels actually don't act like the ones who want nothing to do with you. They act like like perfect lap pets at that time!

I have a hard time keeping track... but you already know the white one is a cockerel as well? Have you started looking for Muffins' plan B?

I need help with sexing this EE, based on his/her comb and his/her coloring I am thinking Roo, but when I posted earlier photo of him/her when he/she was 6 weeks I was told she's a pullet. In all fairness the dark patches on his/her back have recently revealed themselves. He/she is now 9-10 weeks old. I know EE are the mutts of chicken world, but I found a farm upstate for my BO rooster that you can see hanging in the background and it would be easier to make one trip to drop off both.
