? Easter Eggers ?

Mine are only 2 wks old so I have no personal knowledge yet, but when I was looking for what breed I wanted to get all the "professional" info, and the posts of owners said the EE's were calm and gentle, and friendly. The one thing I know from experience so far is they are a hoot, little comics, but that may be all baby chicks.

I thought my easter egger wasn't laying until I realized she laid brown eggs just like my other chicks. Disappointing but very possible.

I have 2 EE hens and 1 EE roo... They are comics. 1 of our EE's is laying so far. The other (same age) is just not into it yet. They have distinct characteristics and are favorites among the kids. Our roo is spoiled. He was the chick my "diva" daughter picked out and she has hand fed him since he was a fluff ball. She picks him up and hugs and cradles him and feeds him grass. (Of course, it's the finest pieces of grass....rolled into tubes just the way he likes them). SPOILED! They are very entertaining. Of course all our chickens are but the EE's seem to be a couple of the "favs". Ours aren't HUGE but they are standard sized. Our roo is definitely colorful. I think that's what makes the EE's so interesting. You just don't know for sure what they'll be. Good Luck!

Daisy is beautiful!!

Do they do well in cold + hot temps??

Do you remember the age they were when they started laying?

Are they the size of say.....a Golden Comet?

One thing to note about EE's is that they are not really a breed, but a crossbreed of typically a blue egg layer and another breed of chicken. The colors they come in, the types of combs they have, if they have beards and muffs, color of egg they lay, color of legs and size are all variable. They are really pretty birds but it is hard to predict what size they will be unless you know what size the parents were.

Thank you for the infor, keep it coming I love to learn!!

Are EE easy to find? More typical in certain parts of the country? So they are a hybrid too like the Golden Comets?

Ahhhhh now I'm getting it. Thanks again, Claudia

Comical is a good word to use to describe my EE's. They definitely have distinct personalities, so I named them accordingly:
Speedy, Sassy and Perry ( as in a Peregrine falcon), and Goldie are my older EE's. My younger ones ( 7 of them) don't all have names yet, but Marilyn ( or Marlon, if she turns out to be a he), Slyvia and Lucky are already named. I believe two of my unnamed ones are Roosters--their tail feathers are getting shiny. One will be named Red, if his feathers stay the same color as they are now....

EE's can be ordered from any hatchery. They might be listed as Americanas, Ameraucanas or Easter Eggers. From what I have been able to learn, none of the hatcheries actually carry true Ameraucanas which are a breed of chicken that lay either a blue or green egg as do Araucanas which are another breed of rumpless chicken that lay blue or green eggs I think. I am pretty new to this whole chicken thing so some of the information might not be totally accurate.

I've had ameraucanas for 9 years and easter eggers for a year...........all of my girls (except for the last 3 months) have been from hatcheries). They handle the Texas heat (highs of 102-104 degrees in my part of TX) without trouble...........they do shade up in the heat of the day, and pant a bit, but I have a box fan in the coop and always plenty of water. I think the coldest it's been here is about 10 degrees (now remember that's ABOVE zero), I think I remember some ppl on here from VT and MN that have them.
Most of mine have fuzzy faces (beards & muffs) and greenish or slate shanks.
I love my little green/pink/blue layers!!!

I purchased 9 EE's from MPC this past spring just for the blue/green egg color. Imagine my disappointment when they all started laying WHITE eggs...after research and phone calls to MPC they informed me they had sent me the WRONG chicks...so have been paying good money for 6 months now raising chickens for WHITE eggs....GRRRRR! Am going to rehome them this week.
