Easter Eggers

Oh, I forgot to say that yes, they lay very well. I'd say that they're my best layers. Everyone is molting now except for my little blue EE, Marjorie. She cranks out about 6 eggs/week. Even my two year-old EE, Hester, averages between 4 and 5.

Looks like you have two pullets to me. =) The first chickens I ever got were EEs. Even though they took forever to start laying (27 weeks) they have been really great layers since they started. They are going through their first adult molt right now so they haven't been laying much the last few weeks, but I still love them. They have great personalities and are by far the friendliest chickens in my flock.

That is awesome....I can't wait for mine to start, although it will be a while. :(

ok sevenbabychicks...here are a couple close ups of both of their faces.

Those combs look girly to me. Also, with their reddish hues, they should have by now (or will soon get) red patches on their wings if they are boys. Though they are still young, and a surprise may still happen, I'm confident voting pullet for both. And I think they'll get even prettier as they mature. Please post some updated pics later on!

If you start with a blue egg layer and cross it with one that has a brown egg gene, you will probably get a green egg layer. The males seem to carry the genes that determine egg color of the next generation. EE produce a lot of very large colovrful eggs, ranging from very dark robin egg blue to teal to olive green to green drab and a few light pink to a rosey brown that they refer to pink. Someone told me they get yellow eggs, but none of mine do, yet?... I have gotten a few gray, though. They lay like brown layers, right through the winter nd are very goode layers, 6 to 7 in the summer and 4 to 5 in the winter, unless they are in molt. Hope this help!

I love my 30 or so easter eggers.. Black seems to be a dominate feather color with these birdes. I started with all colors and cominations of EE's, Most wre rumpless and still are, most were bewarded wit feathery cheeks, but some I bought eggs over Ebay hatched out mostly black and layed green eggs and do not have feathery faces. I started out with all blue egg layers from McMurrays and the eggs I bought over ebay were in blue eggs, but the offspring mostly lay green eggs, so I guess they had a brown rooster, with their blue egg hens?
Hope you enjoy your EE's ! Pretty birds !

Thank you so much Celie for all the info. One question...do they lay medium or large eggs?

I currently have 4 standard sized EE's and 3 bantam EE's. The standards lay very well (not as well as barred rocks, though), and egg size varies from medium to extra large. It's one of my favorite breeds for winter hardiness, vigor, and beautiful eggs. Personalities very - some of my tamest chickens were EE's, but one of my most skittish ever is also an EE. Most are in the middle.
