Easter throw away, sad story and advice needed....

No. it will not hurt your ducks to drink it... it will hurt them not to drink it! Niacin is in with the herbs and vitamins at walmart. I still have some from when my duckies were babies. ducks need more niacin than chickens, so when you feed them anything other that duck feed (which I know you can't find here) you need to suppliment their diet with some niacin. A lack of niacin can cause serious leg deformities.

What about the niacin bothering my 2 week old chicks? I kinda figured the duck could have it since you suggested getting it. Hah Sorry if I confused you.

Oh, ew... hmmm... wait... you got the duck in with the chicks... hmmm.... well... thinking........

maybe create a contraption out of a milk jug that the duck can reach in to drink, but not the chick. (brainstorming outloud here!) I would think that since too much vitamin C can hurt a person, too much of anything is bad... so the chicks probrably shouldn't have too much niacin. I had a rooster get in with my ducks from his box once or twice and drink the water when they were brooding... but that wasn't everyday all day.

Maybe give the duck some niacin water and spend some one on one time with him while he drinks... Ducks will always drink. You can put a bit of clover or grass on the water to get them to go at it. maybe that once or twice a day would be better than nothing.

just thinking!

Well that can be arranged. Cause I let the chicks out in a small covered cage during the day in the sun so they can be "with" the other chicks but not in direct contact with them. I can just give the duck the treated water while they are out...I'm now looking for it a duck buddy around the same age. Know of any?

I don't have any right now... but you know... I bet you could call tractor supply and see if they have any left over... or call the animal shelters too. They sometimes know of Easter babies that need forever homes.

Other than that... keep checking the parks. I'm sure that baby isnt' the only one going to get dumped.

I could give you some hatching eggs... but that would make them a day old a month from now. I'd drive them down 411 for you if you were interested.

Well I'd love to get some eggs from you as soon as my eggs hatch that are in the bator now...They are due the 23rd. So keep me in mind around then. What breed or mix are you offering?
