Easter time SAVE A CHICK rally

That was from a 4H site. If they were dipped wouldn't the feet be colored also? So I tend to agree with this, they are injected which is worse.

Well, you can't sex chicks in an eggs and they are selling the Leghorns specifically as males not straight run.

You can wipe food coloring off feet, not so much feathers.

I just hope anyone looking into purchasing some of these chicks is aware of their local ordinances on whether or not roosters are allowed and is prepared to house at least 17 of them, which would be how many chicks you'd have to buy to meet the minimum dollar amount.

Anyhow good luck with the pamphlets.

I think the parents should own up to the responsibility of caring for it. You get a dyed chick to a 5 year old. its cute I know but you think that kid has any idea on how to care for it? Petsmart has pamplets that shows the age to care for a pet and they have a contract you fill out. Feed stores need to do that. Its sad that these birds have to get dyed to be sold. Why cant they just be natural and adorable the way god made them?

Please tell me what this has to do with the " Easter time SAVE A CHICK rally" against selling chicks for Easter.???

If you are going to use my quote please keep our comments relevant, thank you.

We have already established (by the moderator) that chick dying is off subject.

It's relevant.

If the chicks are all males they are being dyed afterward, that's all.

Also I was pointing out that the chicks are males and a warning to anyone on here who thinks it might be a good idea to rush and purchase a whole lot of chicks thinking they are rescuing them that they will end up with a bunch of males. If they are prepared for that, then fine. People just have a hard enough time placing roosters as it is.

Unless they buy the Cornish X's (straight run but a minimum of 25) they are going to get roosters, but we all know what happens to Cornish X's.

Anyway we aren't supposed to argue whether it's right or wrong ...the moral issues, never said anything about we couldn't say anything about the dyeing process.

I think it's a good idea to educate people about chicken care.

For further reference please don't moderate me since you don't appear to have Moderator under your name.

No I am not a moderator but Silie chicken is and I want to show you this:

Silkiechicken wrote:Let's keep up the good work on spreading the word on why not to get chicks as easter gifts (colored or not), and continue spreading the word on how to care for them in the even that it does happen.

Let's keep it on the topic of how to save a chick and try not to start any arugements on the "rightness" or "wrongness" of the practice, as change must start in the consumer or in other words, bottom up!

You are getting very nasty and all I was trying to do was spare you comments form the moderator since they told us several times to keep on topic.

Some of you may or may not have read the tread 'Cardboard Box' where a Silkie is being neglected and so many people want to help. But the owner seems to be deaf to advice (or a troll).

How about chicks and bunnies that are given to children every year at Easter time and die from miss-care and/or ignorance?

What about a SAVE A CHICK rally to educate store owners and customers so other chicks don't have to die or have a miserable life

This is the topic, didn't I put enough love smileys to let you know my comments were not to be taken nasty? Next time I will let you step in your chickens poo all by yourself.

Okay then. I guess I will no longer contribute to this thread. I just hope I don't see a post by someone trying to adopt out the 50 dyed roosters and Cornish X's that they "rescued".

Enjoy.

I was just looking at the brochure. I think its really good. The only question I have is in the temperature section it doesn't give the standard 95 degrees beginning temperature. Was this a typo? Can it be fixed before these go out? Just trying to help.

Well if you buy them from the hatchery its not rescuing really, that is the only way I could think of someone getting 50. But if someone with a good heart happened to take in 50 or even 100 chicks, dyed or not that needed homes and tried to find them homes, they can't be faulted. They are doing a good deed. Many private rescues with land will take in chickens, esp around Easter time bc they know how many people tire of their chicks (and bunnies) that were given as gifts. And we have this board and some great people on here that would be happy to take in an unwanted chicken.
