Eastern Iowa Poultry Association Annual Show, November 29-30

I can answer some of this.

When you check in, if you have not done the blood testing, they do it then. You take your chickens and find their appropriately marked cages and put them in there. You usually are responsible for feeding and watering your birds.

The judge handles it and checks it over good. I don't know about the prizes some places only give prizes for the overall winners. some give ribbons for junior exhibitors. every show is different it seems to me.

I am not sure how to get a book, I cannot get hold of the people.. there is a link at the top with info on the show but like I said i am not having much luck.

Make sure to ask if a tester will be there, Not all show provide testing on site.

They have nice banquet for 11.00 a person on Saturday evening. You must purchase tickets in advance. NO tickets sold at the show.

Hope that helps..

Okay, I hear a lot on here about people bathing and blow drying their chickens. I have never done that, as I say, I have never been to a show.

Anyway, that is something just to make them prettier and softer of course, but what do they bathe them with?

Also, seems like the chickens need to be handled quite a bit so that the judge can pick them up without getting flogged, right? LOL

Thanks for helping me with this.

When we bathe ours, we use something mild like joy soap. If they have mites, I use Seargents flea and tick shampoo for dogs. I have read some people use flea shampoo for cats. Also some people use the whitner shampoo from the human stores. that make them whiter and brighter and also the blackening shampoo for the darkies!

I'll be there looking around. I don't think any of my chickens are show quality. Reading the poultry books I have my Mille Fluer is not marked of show quality but he is a sweet rooster so I don't really care. I used to show dogs, horses, sheep, and cattle. But, now I don't show at all. I've never shown a chicken ever so I want to come watch and see all the different chickens. I could possibly even buy a few if any have any for sale. I wouldn't care if they were pet quality as long as they had been well cared for. I mostly just want to add some Silkies and Porcelain Belgian Bearded d'Uccles to my flock.

I will be there too. Last year was our first time at the Iowa Show. (Brrr it was cold too ) They had a pretty big sale area so hopefully you will be able to find what your looking for. Get there early for best selection, they do sell fast. And dont forget extra cages..

i have some silkies i'd give you for free. two blacks and one partridge. the older two are roos and the younger one is a cockerel.

I was able to get in touch with Mrs. Shank today and they are sending me a booklet via e-mail. She told me as long as they know the registration is coming they will not exclude you, even if the postmark is after the 12th. I told her that I had been trying to reach her and she said that was fine, I got them before the 12th, so I'm in!

We will be there as well! Probably won't be going to the banquet, but just the show part. I'm anxious to see how this goes!

My first time too!

If any of you see me, come up and say howdy! I don't know if you are to stay with your birds or if you just place them and wait, or what happens. I've never been in any kind of a show before, so this is all new to me. I'd like to be there in case the judge has any words of wisdom for me.

See ya there! We should wear a sticker or something distinctive that shows we are from this forum. Hmmmm, what could we think of? Also could get more people coming to the forum if we did that I bet!

Any ideas folks?
