You rehomed 3 how did that happen ??

I had some great boys that I just didn't have room for. I was lucky enough to sell one and work out a trade for the other two. It's good to know someone could use them for breeders since they were sweethearts. The only ones that we processed were jerks or had serious faults.

killing cones ? brain poke ? what method do they use ?

It was killing cones over a wheelbarrow. I guess I thought it would be faster and was freaked out by the blinking and mouths opening and closing. I can't get that image out of my brain.

Sorry to butt-in on this interesting thread.

There's no such thing as butting in! We rarely stay on one topic very long. Welcome!!

I wish I could advise you about selling, but I am not the one to ask. I will let a chicken go at a loss if it means they'll have a great home. But, I really got into this as a hobby and hadn't planned to break even. My husband has his wheeled toys. I have my birds. Mine works out WAY cheaper in the end.

I got to go outside to the hen houses today since it was nice and I am walking better.

So glad you're getting around better. All physical therapists should use chicken TV as a motivator! Your girls should be laying soon. I've got two that are laying and they aren't too much older than yours.

a picture of chicken meat isn't what I was expecting

I knew you all wouldn't believe me without proof.

If I hadn't flipped out, I was going to get a picture of me plucking away.

A friend of mine works in law enforcement in the Tri-Cities area. He said cock fighting is alive and well there, too. I think it's a truly revolting practice.

Good News! My silkie got over being broody and hopped back on the roost tonight. Seems like she's got my attention span.

I know a couple ex cock fighters.....it is definitely still alive and well. Lots of law enforcement people out here are good ol boys who do it or know of it and turn a blind eye. Don't think they'll ever get it eradicated.

Anyone going to dalton this weekend? Gonna go but probably not show. Gonna bring me leghorn/cochin layer girls to sell again...and some bantam mottled cochins (this time, I will put them IN the dang truck). Plus a couple bunnies.

I'll second that for union co., I have "neighbors" down the road that keep fighting cocks. I was talking to the next door neighbor about possibly getting some chickens and he started telling me about how he used to raise english game roosters... it took me a few to realize what he was talking about. Apparently in certain circles, his stock was still held in high regard.

So LR, you a biker or a cyclist?

I can cover a few miles on a bicycle... the DW and I like to ride along some of the quiet back roads in anderson/union co. Apart from all the free ranging dogs it's also a major stress reliever for us.

Since I started raising poultry I now notice all the backyard flocks I somehow missed before. One thing that's nice on a bicycle is you can really see the details of the countryside.

uggg. Strife with neighbors. Their dog took out one of my reds and attacked a del roo (he is alive and doing well minus some feathers thank goodness)

Harley tore thru the back door and seriously injured their dog (it will be a miracle if he lives, Harley can be protective). Now I have to worry about retribution.

50 lb mixed breed. The same one that acted like he was going to bite Megan and little Lucy one day (and Harley saw this). So he already hated the dog, lol. He is about 95 lbs now and getting pretty protective. I feel bad...but I cant do anything about there dog coming up on the property and going after Harley's chickens. He is a GSD and was doing what GSD's do best (protection).

If they let their dog wander around why would you be worried about retribution if the dog was on your property? Do they just have a loose screw or two?
