Bairo, talk to HappyMtn. She has POL olive eggers that are awesome. There are Wheaten Maran X Wheaten Ameraucanas and Splash Coppers. They are beautiful and have a great attitude. They talk smack to my big orp girls through the quarantine fence. I think I read that she's looking at expanding into black cochins, too.

Edited to correct spelling. It's late, people!

Is she expanding to bantam cochins?

Isnt she like an hour or more west of you guys? That would be a road trip

You should road trip over to see her and see the grandparents of your cochin mixes you got from me. My blue cochin is out of her blue and splash cochins (which I had bought from her, owned for a year and then sold back). LOL

And you can get the leghorn/cochin hen from me on the way! ha!

Small world, eh?

White layers? Leghorns, minorcas, andalusians, dorkings.....mostly the flighty breeds. I still like my leghorns and especially my leghorn crosses. You need my leghorn/cochin girl! LOL. She will probably lay a tinted, or light brown egg.

[eta: if you want egg production machine, you need to just resign yourself to the leghorns.....probably white]

I thought about a couple blue andalusions, but I think they are about as bad a white legs for needing prozac.

Also, you can cull a young mottled cockerel of mine who seems to have a broken leg. Sigh. How the heck does that even happen? Its still in the brooder..........

I used to have blue andalusians. i agree with the above statement. Same attitude, without the super duper laying ability.

I love my leghorns. Only ever had 2 and sold 1 that kept getting on my truck lol. They mean business. Free range and forage like champs, lay like crazy. Okay okay, they are a bit half cocked, but smart in the way that chickens should be smart.

did you have them in a mixed flock, how bad were they on the others?

They dont cause any problems. Not the boss, not the bottom. They are more interested in finding food than anything else. They've always been part of the crowd, no problems at all.
