We are looking for one for our 4 Rir hens, preferably a stocky one because the hens are rather large.

These are a few of the hens they have been tending. They are not aggressive towards people, we have raised them from hatching, Actually we have three to choose from, two are larger than the other one, I will try and get a better picture for you if the rain lets up today.

Let me finish my next test hatch....I have 2 SG roos and 1 Partridge hen....so I have them mixed with others to see what my percentage is. My hens are just now starting to lay and am hoping they don't go broody. I have already had 3 who have. I keep telling them I need eggs!
Give me a shout later in case I forget.
Thanks!!! I am on here reading quite alot, just don't always have alot to say. This thread is so much better for us than the Virginia thread, we only live about an hour out of Kingsport/JC, and most of the Virginia thread is Northern VA.

Bleh I'm stuck inside today and these eggs are DRIVING ME NUTS! I can't stop checking them every 5 minutes, they were supposed to start hatching yesterday. *pulls hair out*

*Looks at incubator again*

@TNbarnqueen, would buff showgirls interest you? I just introduced a buff showgirl cockerel to my show quality buff silkie, theres a white silkie pullet in the pen too so not sure what would happen there but my buffs are very dark but clear with the exception of the showgirl, he has some smut.

Is it even worth it. When I now they are cockerals I off them and they go to the dog. Right now I have teo people that want a cockeral with thier pullets so they can have a small flock.

Speaking of which anyone know if Knox or JC is allowing chickens in town? I know they were on the agenda but do not know if it passed.

i had a bunch come out blazed if thats what they are, some had funny circles and zigzags all over or down them at times. my last male carries the genes for a lot probly, so ill post if any come out of him and a new female to strengthen the blood she is just an albino, so no promises, though assuming so inbred as a feeder rat, that her genes may just be over ridden by my male's).

i didnt see a single city cock or hen in knox when was thare, but JC had them everywere scattered around in yards, when i was out that way years ago.

Just thought I would let ya'll know... I'm going to soon be hatching some XW Barred Rocks (Thompson line, Frank Reese, the same line that KathyinMO has) - I don't even want to grow out too many chicks for lack of space. So if anyone wants chicks this season from these, please get with me on facebook (Tate Poultry) or email me at [email protected]. Charging general public $6/chick... but BYC ETN friends $4/chick. Straight run, of course.

ya'll might already know, but the line is a closed line that goes back to the late 1800's... Walt Leonard (APA) says they are the oldest closed line... not to over sell them, but Frank Reese took the line over some years ago and worked them for taste. (somehow) and those who have eatten them said they truely do taste better than other backyard chickens. So take that for what it is.

Just thought I would let ya'll know. ;)

Oh, PS... I'm only doing this once for them, no pressure. Just wanting to share a hatch, really.
