Stang?? Your pretty good at this too, LOL what the heck are they?

Stacy and stang...you guys were thinking about if BC were roos or not (well, B anyway) Welsummers are easy to tell even at that age, but im not going to tell you

lol.

@Stang, almost forgot.
Guess who laid me a (mostly) white egg yesterday. That retarded golden Campine of mine, LOL That little chick that you guessed the breed on. I say retarded because she still does that funky high kick walk thing, she looks like a WW2 German soldier marching!! I can not find any info on it at all, but she is healthy and happy and right in the middle position of the pecking order. So she'll be fine.

Just a little fun here: Can you identify these 2-1/2 week old chicks? May be hard to nail it down being there are so many breeds & the fact that they are only 2-1/2 weeks old, so first hint there are two different breeds. As time goes I will post some hints, if no one gets it right off?
First to get it right wins a smiley face!

AND THE CORRECT ANSWERS ARE:

As we know, Bairo called it right the first time on B & C = WELSUMMERS

AND A, D & E are .......SPECKLED SUSSEX

That was crazy.
Well...this person obviously does not get out much. I would love to have some black marans and welsummers that lay white eggs!! Those would be killer rare!!! I would not sell to this person...and I have quite a few they are looking for....if they paid me double. What an attitude!

Hmmmm...does not want them if they have to chase them down AND would come pick them up! Did they think for that price they would be delivered? That is quite a strange selection wanted. Yeah.....I am going to sell 4-9 mo. old POL chickens for 1-3 dollars. NOT At least I hope it does not come to that!

P.S. thanks for playing & I really am impressed. I still have a long way to go to identifing adult chicken breeds, let alone the chicks.

I do hope I have one of each on the Wellies and as for the SS (I know the pic wasn't good for you to see more of the face/head) but I really just can't
tell at tihs time, nothing looks too different on any of the three.

thanks for playing Ijust a big kid here with too much time on my hands these days

The new TSC in Newport is now doing them on the 2nd Saturday of the month. I mentioned Jake and Morristown, so hopefully they will get together and brainstorm to make it better. They said they only had 5 people set up here this past Saturday.
THE NEW ONE IN JONESBOROUGH HAS STARTED A SWAP, THE ONE IN KINGSPORT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A ONE TIME THING BUT THEY SAID IT GENERATED SO MUCH BUSINESS THE MANAGER SAID LETS DO IT MORE.

StacyTn : I saw that CL ad--What they didn't want them free?? Have any Specked Sussex to sell? eggs or chicks--where did you get them around here?? TNBarnQueen: I think you have to bait a trap with live food because they drink blood. If you could re-cage something inside a trap so it would be safe-but I don't think that's possible. I know of someone who had a raccoon problem with a interesting way of dealing with it. After locking his hens away at night he set 2 tires in front of their pen, adjusted a long piece of pipe right over that and set house current to the steel pole--killed 5 the 1st time used. Now, he had tried traps and lost 5 hens before that. I found this for you:
MINKS
Minks dig but not avidly. They will use abandoned gopher holes or muskrat dens rather than dig a new home for themselves. Mink can easily get past the electric wire around the perimeter fence but can't climb a five-foot fence.
They can, however, easily get through two-inch wire gauge; hence, smaller gauge wire fencing is a must. Most mink cannot run down a chicken or a rooster, but they can corner them in the coop and are stealthy enough to approach a sleeping rooster in the dark. Keeping minks from getting into the coop in the first place is the best way to prevent predation by them.
Minks will chew through soft wood; therefore, metal flashing (at least 18 inches wide) needs to be attached to the bottom of all older (possibly
rotten) wood walls of a coop. this:http://www.instructables.com/id/Keeping-your-Chickens-Safe-at-Night-with-those-lit/ and rags soaked in diesel and hang around the area is suppose to be effective. I guess I could't smell any chickens if I came upon those smelly rags;). I hope anyone or all of these help!
