Well, last night I was laying in bed almost asleep when the neighbors coon hounds started going nuts. I threw on clothes and grabbed the flashlight as I went out the door. I shined the light and saw eyes on the woods so I started wanting toward them thinking it was a possum cause it didn't run away. I kept the light on it and it disappeared and then all of a sudden from behind a wood pile this **** doc walks out and just stands there. I about freaked. I stood there forever and he never ran. I came back to the house to get the gun and by the time I got back he was gone....man that guy is very brave .

Not to change the subject but I find this interesting (Stang will laugh at me)....

People have been having sudden death due to what they THINK is vaulted skulls in SFHs... so I go to Sweden on the WWW and find that they aren't threatened in Sweden... matter of fact, they stipulate that to be counted as a population there has to be males for the females. So for example, if you have 10 SFHs and all hens, they don't count toward their system of determining if the breed is endangered, threatened, or safe.

Therefor, I'm even more curious. GF claims they only deal with "ultra-rare" breeds... but going to Europe on the WWW states the opposite. There are fare more rare breeds, and these breeds they have are well... akin to us having true Columbian Wyandottes for example... somewhat rare, but not pay-out-your-nose-or-die-trying-to-find-them rare. I wrote a few people emails in English and German. I hope to hear back from them and get to the horses mouth. Stay tuned!
I have SFH and I have never had sudden death due to vaulted skulls, I have found, however if you do not give them the nutrients they need they will die. No one ever mentions that silkies also have vaulted skulls, I don't ever see anyone taking about them having sudden death.

My worms made it today. They arrived safe & I only saw a few dead ones. I put them in a temporary ziploc container with some air holes & fresh oats. I never have housing ready for anything???

I guess if I waited until I had the housing done then I would never get anything new.

bairo- the chicks are adorable. Which reminds me we haven't seen any updates on the baby bunnies.

stang- sorry about your eggs. Its time for a bunny fix.....hint, hint.
I am with you there. We picked up some laying hens last night at around 6:30 and was still fixing/cleaning a quarantine stall for them at 10:30 last night.

Well it was halloween last night... costume maybe? I know those medical bills they send are SCARY, but I don't know if I would shoot them over it.

Back to... I hate hatchery chicks. Just picked up a shipment this morning (I only buy meat birds from hatchery's by the way- quality don't really matter as far as they go) at the post office at 8am and they all looked dead and frozen- I heard one chirp and breathe and so I took him and held him till I got back to my shop. Found about 10 barely alive after I heated them all up. So from 8- now I have been hand watering and trying to nurse them into health- slowly they all have died except one who is looking lively but still can't move around much. Not likely he will make it but, I'm putting forth an effort. Let's try this again when they ship out more in 2 weeks.

RODNEY,

Help. Went out to feed today, and Plymouth isn't looking good. He had been fine since we gave him the shots. He had even started crowing again. He is super lethargic, and there is a little black on his comb. Tell me what to do. No watery eyes or nose.

AJ and Stacy....

Did you use one of the Chinese suppliers for the nipples? Terry showed me hers and they seem exactly like the ones I get from the American manufacturer.
Yup, I opted to pay $3 more and get them sooner than later. I got them off someone who gets them from China in bulk and then resells. The price was only three dollars more.... trust me, I watch and watch and watch for the best deals. One reason I take so long to get things done.

Oh no!! That's not a good sign! The black on his comb may be frostbite but I don think that causes lethargy... :-(

I think vaulted skulls are a bit more "touchy" but I'm trying to figure out why it is a issue. I don't mean why medically... but why is it even such a issue to be discussed. I had a cockerel lined up and I was told he suddenly died.

Like I said, I'm just investigating. I haven't had sudden deaths either. I just need a cockerel because of a preditor.
