It does sound like a possum. There are devices you can buy that are designed to repel predators, nite guard is one of them. There are mixed reviews on whether they really work, in my opinion they do. They only work at night, are solar powered, and send a red flash of light that repels night animals. I started using them about 4 yrs. ago, I had a pen of 40 or so young pullets coming up and something was getting in and taking 3 or 4 every night. I ordered these and put them up and it stopped instantly. I completely surround all my coops with them and occasionally move them around. I probably have over 500 birds right now and I have only lost one in the past year, a young roo that was in a small coop and not really that secure and not protected buy the nite guards, a possum got him and I got the possum the next night in a live trap. I have heard people say they don't work, but like I said I believe they do. They are running a special on them right now (I got a card in the mail yesterday) order 4 light get one free- Use coupon code free12. www.NiteGuard.com

Thanks, I was looking into these earlier. I read mixed reviews. You should see the young turken roo I have growing out from you. Very pretty. I will have to send you a picture.

I buy from Dave Waters, our Countryside rep. He adds a couple of dollars to the "store" cost.

The grinding is what got to me. By buying scratch, alfalfa, kelp, Nutri-balancer, and peas from Countryside and then adding other grains from Three Rivers Co-op, it wasn't TOO unreasonable, cost-wise, but my flock wouldn't eat whole alfalfa pellets or peas, so there was SO MUCH grinding. I couldn't keep up. They did seem to love their feed, though.

I saw on the whole-grain thread that there's a reasonable grinder on the Premiere One site, so I've been thinking about revisiting whole grain feeding again...

ETA: I still have a TON of Nutri-balancer and peas if someone wants to try a small batch and doesn't want to invest in a whole bag.
Ahh...I just found this to check on that. I have his email and was going to ask you if that is who you are using. Does he have a store front? Are they doing a pellet or just crumble?

Hey guys, if anyone is looking for chinchillas my friend has 5 of them for sale, they're babies that were born recently and there will be discounts given for buying pairs. Just PM me! Thanks

I totally jinxed myself by saying after Monday I would have more time... OMG what a couple of days and today isn't over yet! AGH!

To the few who asked about mealworms... PM me... It looks like I could have enough to START making some up for ya'll in stages. If ya'll are still interested, that is.

Now, I'm about to collapse. Must. Have. Caffine.

Rats, that is awful. I didn't even think about that. What about a skunk? Are there anythings out there I can get to deter predators. There is one place I could think of that they may have gotten in. I am going to fix that tonight.
If you don't have cats around.....Havoc is great for mice and rats. Live traps are best for possum, coon and skunk. Take a honeybun and zip tie to the back of the cage. Adding a little peanut butter on it will help attract them. You can put the honeybun under the end of the trap but Itsthelaw's DH said ties or even push what you can into a sardine can and zip tie it. If you don't have cats or dogs around to get into it....sardines work very well.

I use the predator lights too and haven't lost anyone since. You have to set them to a height depending on what you are trying to keep away. DH gave 70.00 for 4. I put one inside the hen house too. I have trapped a possum inside the area but the trap was set at the corner that I don't have a PL.

It's a mash which is why I stopped using it. My birds were wasting way too much. For a little more I buy Nature's Best from Agri-Feed in Knoxville. It's a little over $30 a bag but you can get pellets or crumble, which they will actually eat. Dave told me that he only puts out enough for them to eat in a day and that helps. Mine were a little better when I put a pan under the feeder to catch what they scratched out. They ate what they liked then went back and ate the rest. I still like the pellets better, though. It has soy, but it's non-GMO. I tell ya, someone willing to produce soy-free feed in pellet form could make a killing.

Hey Barnqueen, I worked until 6 tonight, so I couldn't meet. Is there another time you'll be in Knoxville? Maybe you could get some eggs I have for Bairo, too.
