Brain Damage Attracks Brain Damage by Amy Gregory Long

You know how I always make a comment about my chickens being brain damaged? Well, I just spent all morning catching my Golden Laced Wyandotte Rooster, bringing him in the house and photographing him. Took him back out to the coop and let him go. Was totally excited about seeing photos, printing them and making a rooster photo collage. I didn't put the card in the camera. I need a drink.

Terri, we named him Duke. I thought it was cute since his girlfriend was Daisy. Anyways, today he had his shampoo and blowdry. I think at one point I heard him mutter "you are not my friend."

Question: can the feathers around his feet/legs be trimmed? I ask this for him, Daisy and my two Brahmas. If they can, how do I do it?

Just finally got to butcher the first of the Sulmtalers... they really are a flat chested breed... but it should be still worth it in flavor. We'll see. Their skin is thin compared to the American birds I have done... makes sense, we love that fatty skin battered and fried. But I ended up having to skin him and I have never done that before. It was a learning experience and I can see the advantage to it.

I buy from Dave Waters, our Countryside rep. He adds a couple of dollars to the "store" cost.

The grinding is what got to me. By buying scratch, alfalfa, kelp, Nutri-balancer, and peas from Countryside and then adding other grains from Three Rivers Co-op, it wasn't TOO unreasonable, cost-wise, but my flock wouldn't eat whole alfalfa pellets or peas, so there was SO MUCH grinding. I couldn't keep up. They did seem to love their feed, though.

I saw on the whole-grain thread that there's a reasonable grinder on the Premiere One site, so I've been thinking about revisiting whole grain feeding again...

ETA: I still have a TON of Nutri-balancer and peas if someone wants to try a small batch and doesn't want to invest in a whole bag.

I would love to try some and I will be in Knoxville tomorrow!

Quick question......are sprouted mung beans ok for chickens?? Food CIty had the large bags marked down to 99 cents cause they run out today..I thought they would be a great treat for them tonight.

I always skin mine...just much easier and we don't usually eat the skin unless I am making stock. It is pretty easy after 3 or 4

Sounds good. What time are you coming through? Have you got some bins to put it in or you wanna just bring me my buckets back? They're the smaller galvanized ones.
