@Itsthelaw....I really do wish you could have videoed Tommy...he may have gone viral if you had posted it on YouTube! I never thought Duke could be that obstinate!! Little Bugger! I have found...and I seldom chase chickens...I use bread. It's like crack to chickens and just make a trail. Also..you need one of my "chicken chasers". It is a piece of bamboo about 6-7 ft. long with all the limbs cut off up to about 8 in. from the top. You can reach in LONG spaces with that.

My cat is ripping newspaper like a cyclone!! She jumps on it and just starts grabbing mouthfuls and ripping it out. She is so spoiled. This is one of her favorite playrooms after all the water bottle are gone.

We just got back from camping..it was wonderful but....lost another juvenile polish.

But...am pretty certain on what has been getting them. (20) I have an older chick brooder that is made from a bathroom vanity. It works great....the chickens head was pulled behind the brooder. I pulled it out and it has a 5 in. space to access underneath it. It was packed with shavings...egg shells and a nest from hay out of the nesting boxes and very big rat poop. I racked it all out. Covered the place going underneath the brooder and then started setting traps. I took carriers and butted them together with traps inside them..they can get in but the chickens can't. All the Juveniles went in cages. But...of all 20 that I have lost 15 where Polish. Everyone is getting a haircut in that house too. Nothing messes with the adult Polish...course I would say they are afraid of them...especially Chaos. But..it has only been in the bantam side where I also grow out chicks before they go into their breed specific pen. Tommy...I may need your advice.

@tnchknut...I am ready...just let me know when to send you the funds.

I am starting oat fodder tomorrow..if I get caught up. I am anxious to start it. It cost me $13.95 for a 50 lb. feed. I am going to grow it in my greenhouse. I think between the mealworms and fodder my chickies are going to love me.

I have a long pole that is about 12 feet that I use to wrangle the guineas back home. It is like driving a car....steer to the left, keep going, steer to the right....etc. Tommy had got poor little Duke so frazzled by the time he asked me to help, that there wasn't anything that could be done. I did say that after we left him alone, he went home on his own. Tommy is just way too old to be running around like that - and part of it is a steep hill. That is when I peed on myself. Duke came flying down that hill running faster than his little bitty legs could take him. He had a wild look on his face like "uh oh", and then turn left - Tommy is running down the same hill. He's running faster than his little legs would take him. He actually stumbled at one point and caught his balance and kept running. It was at that exact moment I realized he almost ate dirt. I couldn't stop laughing. And yes, I had my pole. But I was of no use at that point because I was on the ground. Tommy actually got Duke up on the porch at one point, but he wouldn't go into his door. He ran past it and jumped through the banisters. Tommy is screaming "catch him Amy." There was no way I was going to catch that little booger.

I am in NC visiting Joshua. Tommy had to take care of ALL the animals today. He said he did okay. I did ask if Duke got to run. He stated flatly "NO!"

Do we have the same cat? lol I saw your photo and thought it was my cat. This is Jasmine. She's "guarding" the chickens.
This is a better pic of Gizmo...she is the most personable cat I have ever had. She sits and talks and I know what each sound is asking for..usually treats. She pouts when I am gone and is my snuggly when it is bed time. Talk about a mouser!!! She is a diluted Torti-Tabby. Yours looks a bit like my sons. Looks like it may have some Maine Coon from the ear tufts. I lost my MC this past summer to FIP...I truly miss him.

sorry guys for jumping from chickens to cats.
Tell Tommy to set Duke in his lap sideways and start offering his treats. Start with bread since that is something he is use to a a treat. Just takes a little time.
I had a younger Polish that the rat must have gotten hold of...she had blood all over him. I brought her in..one toe had the nail torn off and the top of her wing was bleeding. So we had a good rinse and when I saw his feet seem to be OK and the wing wasn't as bad as it appeared she got a good bath and is enjoying being warn and snuggly inside tonight.

Hey everyone. I resurfaced!

I've been buried in grading. Every time a report card period ends and I have to go underground for two days to catch up I tell myself I'll never let it get that bad again... then I do.

Chickennut, I LOVE those OEGB. I'd never seen wheaten before but they are

Makes me kind of ashamed to show you the picture of my banty brigade I took yesterday, but here goes:

I promise the image looked great on my camera screen. It wasn't until I uploaded it that I realized it was garbage.

Bob is the smaller, grayish blob in the middle. Speedy is the buff almost-silkie. The other three blobs are the Bob-ettes. The three buff brahma cross daughters that she hatched out last summer.

I called Speedy an almost-silkie because she has super wings and can fly like anything. She's never been broody, has ZERO maternal instincts and only has one tiny tuft of silkied feathers on the top of her head that makes her look like a Fraggle. She's very homely and doesn't like ANYONE, but I just love her... from a distance.

Chicklet, the babies are getting so BIG, aren't they? I think they are looking 3:1 like you said. So, you broke Bairo's and Contrast's streak of mostly boys! I'm happy to say that Calliope is looking girlish again today, too. Especially compared to your boy.

I also love the picture of your boy. My dog doesn't nest, he roosts. Must be from hanging out with the chickens all the time. It makes it easy for my daughter to get a hold of him. Can you tell he's up on the back of the chair? One of the perks of being 9lbs.

LOL. He is cute. I guess I could borrow him to teach the chicks how to roost and maybe my Riley will go broody! I am sorry for contrast & bairo but really glad I broke the trend.

Here's a couple of blues that I have with yours (they are a few weeks older & "siblings" to BB). I got lucky when I got them but I lost my favorite splash in the reverse trio.

Oh well hopefully next year I will be able to get some splash ones.

I think the lines will cross well.

Here's the one I lost (he injured his leg & couldn't be saved)

ETA: as usual its the favorites (or the ones you want to use for breeding) that you lose.

Oh, I'm sorry. He sure was a handsome guy. What's the reverse trio?

I LOVE the lacing on the blue pullet. My darker girls have nice lacing, but I've still got a lot of work to do on the lighter colors.

If Calliope ends up being Cal, I'll have a splash available to a good home. (If the test exists, that is)

Was it just the angle of the picture or is the runt starting to catch up? She has a nice, short back. If she grows a full tail, she'll be a stunner.

Thank you. The reverse trio is 2 males & 1 female. And its not the camera angle the the runt is catching up, now the first identifiable pullet is the smallest with the longest back. I now have 1 blue cockerel from each line but put me down just in case Calliope is a boy & you can test. Be sure to put others on the waiting list too because I am such a sap and get attached to the ones I have.

itsthelaw- thank you.
