Ok, what is this New Years Day Hatch? I have seen people asking for eggs for this. Pardon my ignorance on this. But what is it all about? Thx!

Honestly, it's a bunch of hatch'ers across the continent looking for a reason to hatch (ya, like we need a reason).

Also everyone trying to be a good enabler.

Everyone sets their eggs at noon on the 11th of December (at least the chicken eggs).
People are setting all kinds of eggs.

The last time I looked there are 164 people involved, more to still join, I'm sure.
There are right now 22 different hatch along contest.
Some are open to hatchers only while some are open to everyone.
They have even scored some nice prizes this year, including several Brinsea Mini incubators.

Here are some links for you to take a look at:

This will be the 4th big one, I was involved two years ago, and had a great time.

The biggest thing is IT IS FUN TO HATCH and you have people to share it with.

Besides with winter being here, what else is there to do.

Ok, so my little SFH juvies now follow me and jump in my hands when I fill up their feeders in the morning. They are so adorable, its like their saying "Look, its mommy!!! its mommy!! she had food!!!! yeah!!" quite hilarious and sweet.

Yeah!! new years hatch gives me an opportunity to try out my new sportsman incubator!!

I have a question . I went with the genesis incubator for hoping it was more dummy proof.i also got the egg turner . What do I do when the eggs start to hatch? Take the turner out ? I have never done this before and trying to figure it out before hand.

Finally got confirmation from Greenfire farms. My Coronation Sussex hens and roo will be here next week!

after a year of getting babies and loosing them to possoms I am so excited to get fully mature Greenfire breeding stock (unrelated to beat it all). Maybe one day I can recoup some of my money spent with chicks and eggs for sale. They are getting a chicken condo built this weekend just for them and I dare any predators to even attempt to get a hold of them.

I don't know for sure about the genesis but, with the ones I use you have to remove the eggs from the turner on day 18 and place them on the wire/mesh surface. Im sure your incubator is the same way.

Question... I know several of you all have Seramas in East Tn and I would like to know what you do during the winter and if you keep heat on them. I was going to get some for my daughter but, the more I read they are not very cold hardy and require a lot of care in the winter and extra heat sources. Would love everyones input.
