Ok...who is NPIP certified and what did you do to become certified? Thanks for any/all advice.

I will get the info to you on the NPIP...I have got to call and have them come out to do mine. It is $35 unless they went up for 2013

@tennesseeckn.....I guess I do need to slow down and actually read what I type...I am sooooo embarrassed.

I was on an Ameraucana thread where I posted pics. A woman told me that I do not have Ameraucanas because they are tufted...they should only have beards and muffs....I am really confused now. So...is all the facial feathers muffs?? I may need to find a site that list what part of the chicken is what!

There is an Thread w/ a detailed article about which is what right here on BYC
sorry don't have link just go to the breeds section type Ameraucana and it will be in the list of Threads.
very informative
its all kinda complex but if you see the 2 APA breeds face off it is really clear,
& everything w/ faults or any cross to other breeds is an "Easter Egger" which ends up being a polite way to
say Mutt w/ colored egg genetics in background

I got an EE hen by accident as a pullet, she was my best layer last summer, egg EVERY day
could tell, only green I in the flock

OK, if I understand it correctly...

Tufts are the curly q's around what would be the ear-area of a person. Like on Araucanas.

The beards and muffs are hard to tell apart, but beards are under the beak and muffs are under the eyes. I've never seen a bird with just muffs or just a beard, but I guess it could happen.

So, did she think the Ameraucanas were tufted because you asked, or from the pictures? I've posted lots of pictures on the Ameraucana thread and no one's ever mentioned it to me before. And they usually don't hold back. I've never seen an Araucana in real life, so I don't know if I would know the difference.

The only two girls I can rely on laying every day are my Olive Eggers. Unless, of course, someone wanted to hatch their eggs. Then I'm sure they'd quit for winter just like the others.

I mistakenly called them tufted. A friend of mine had Araucanas. They where really nice though I could not get use to their not having tails feathers. I knew they are bearded but was not sure on the muff part...so..I was using the incorrect discriptive term. So....would Satan and my self blue be double muffed cause theirs are much larger than my other Ameraucana. She came from a well known breeder who my blue self also came from. He had told me he was working on the doubles...in fact he is sending me a dozen eggs in the spring...I am so excited cause he seldom ever sells his eggs or chickens. He and I have talked a lot and he has been alot of help in my breeding projects and the genetics. I get tickled cause my blue wheaten from you Daphne looks like he has an Amish beard!

My one OE lays every day..only thing is all the girls get in the boxes and scratches out all the hay and when the egg drops it makes a hole in the end. I have 3 others who are the same age who have so far not given me diddly!!

OK...got the beard part right now....I went back and someone had posted that Satan is actually a splash wheaten. She posted a pic of her blue wheatens and I swear I cannot tell a lot of difference. Wait...looking at the chest I can kinda see why they may be saying splash.

And said this one is blue instead of self blue,

This is my white who is not does not have the double muff..not a good pic..she is camera shy yet she follows around on my heels. She is my baby doll! I am really curious what I will get with her and Satan. (Named so because every time I touch him he grabs my finger and does not let go. Hurst like the dickens!..I think Bario spoiled him!!)

See, Andalusion blue comes in all shades of Blue, black and splash... Splash can look white, or even a diluted blue, and some come with different shades of color, as you see in yours. the tail has splashes of black and blue... It is not a real blue.
